Allyson Sweeney and
Kristy Selby each registered their 100
th hit in a Muhlenberg softball uniform, however the Mules fell to Haverford twice, 4-1 and 6-4.
Selby reached the century mark with a bloop single in the bottom of sixth before moving to third on a double to the fence in right center by classmate
Kristina Qualben. With the two runners in scoring position and the go-ahead run at the plate, Haverford's pitcher retired each of the next two batters to escape the inning.
Qualben got the Mules (18-10, 3-5 CC) on the board with a two-run home run that skied over the center field fence in the fourth to tie the game at two. The Fords (15-8-1, 4-1-1 CC) responded with a four-run fifth to regain the lead. In the bottom of the frame, sophomore
Ariana Feliziani doubled and moved to third on a
Sarah Raab bloop single just into the grass, giving Muhlenberg a first and third situation with one out. In the ensuing at-bat, Raab took off for second and with the throw from the catcher going to second Feliziani broke for home. Raab advanced to third on the play and scored on a
Sarah Karmazyn groundout.
Sweeney's 100
th hit came in the opener, when she sent a low line drive through the right side in the fourth inning.
The Fords held a 4-0 lead heading to the bottom of the seventh. Raab loaded the bases with a single through the left side and two outs, before freshman
Sarah Karmazyn rolled a single up the middle to bring in classmate
Genna Cicchetti.
After surrendering three runs in the first inning,
Cora Bridgers settled in, finishing with seven strike outs. The frosh has fanned at least seven in eight appearances this season, including three of her last four outings.
Qualben led the Mules with four hits on the day. She owns the team's longest active hit streak at eight and has reached safely in each of the last nine games.
