The Muhlenberg field hockey team continued its late-season surge, defeating Swarthmore 1-0 for its fourth straight win.
The Mules (8-7, 7-2), who had already clinched a Centennial Conference playoff berth, moved into a tie for third place with Ursinus with one game remaining in the regular season. Muhlenberg finishes Saturday at Washington, which is tied with Dickinson for the fifth and final playoff spot.
Muhlenberg will either host the 4-5 playoff game or be the third seed and get a first-round bye.
The defense allowed only one shot in recording its fifth shutout of the season. All five of the shutouts have been 1-0; in fact, the Mules last 10 wins dating back to last season have all been by one goal.
The lone goal of this game came late in the first half when junior
Courtney Allen converted an endline cross from sophomore
Rachel Richards. It was the third goal of the season for Allen and the second assist of the year for Richards
(pictured above).
