DOVER, Del. - Swarthmore College Softball opened its season in grand fashion on Saturday afternoon with a 10-2 rout of Wesley College.
The Garnet were winning 7-2 after the fourth inning in Game 2 of what was supposed to be a doubleheader until it was called due to rain. The game will not be resumed.
Sophomore
Mika Maenaga and junior
Gabriella Natoli reached base every time they came to bat in the win. Maenaga went 1-for-1 with a single, four walks and three runs scored. Natoli clubbed three singles and was hit by a pitch. She stole a base, drove in three runs and scored once.
Swarthmore's three runs in the top of the first were the result of doubles from freshman
Gwen Glatz and sophomore
Lucy Decker.
The team's biggest inning was the seventh, during which it scored four runs. The Garnet had 12 hits throughout the game and didn't record one error.
Decker pitched the entire game for Swarthmore, allowing two earned runs while striking out two and walking one.
The Garnet play their next games at Clothier Field against the College of New Rochelle in a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. on Saturday.
