Johns Hopkins Bests Drew, 2-1, in Battle of Top-15 Teams

Charendoff’s First Career Goal is the Game-winner

The Basics
• Score: #13 Johns Hopkins-2, #12 Drew-1
• Records: JHU (4-1-0) • DU (3-2-0)
• Location: Baltimore, MD • Homewood Field
• The Short Story: Sophomore Nate Charendoff's first career goal was a memorable one as it proved to be the game-winner in Johns Hopkins' 2-1 win over 12th-ranked Drew in a rain-drenched affair at Homewood Field.

How it Happened
Drew nearly got on the board in the 22nd minute when Nate Race fired a shot on goal that eluded sophomore Xander LeFevre, but senior Cole Rosenberger booted the ball out of the air and out of danger. Two minutes later however, the Rangers took the lead when they were awarded a free kick. Anthony McMyne took the kick from about 30 yards out. LeFevre came out to collect the ball, but couldn't control the rebound and Matt Asante was there to tap home the rebound.
• Hopkins responded in the 31st minute to level the score at one apiece. Senior Gerrit Church struck a free kick from just outside the box that Ranger goalie Jason Adamo was just able to knock over the cross bar. On the resulting corner, Church sent the ball deep into the Drew box and Adamo came out to punch it away. The ball skidded off his outstretched hand and sophomore Alejandro Maclean buried the deflection from the doorstep.
• Rosenberger came up big again for the Blue Jays in the 34th minute when he cleared away a header by Cole Bosch.
• Charendoff scored the go-ahead goal in the 65th minute off a Liam Creedon free kick. Creedon took the kick from about 34 yards out near the left sideline, sending the ball to the far side of the box. The ball deflected off a defender and out to Charendoff, who took one touch and blasted a shot into the right upper 90 from 10 yards out.
• Less than four minutes later, the Blue Jays got a third team save to keep the score at 2-1. LeFevre came out to challenge Asante on a fast-break, but with the wet conditions, the ball skipped away. Race ran onto the loose ball about 20 yards out and fired a high shot that seemed destined for the goal. Freshman Tim Treinen was in the right spot at the right time and cleared the ball.

What it Means
