BRYN MAWR, Pa. – Thirteen players reached the scoring column as second-ranked Gettysburg College recorded its best offensive output in seven seasons with a 24-3 victory over Bryn Mawr College in a Centennial Conference women's lacrosse match up Saturday afternoon.
Gettysburg (12-2, 6-1 CC) turned its highest-scoring affair since racking up 25 goals against Adrian College in the 2011 NCAA Division III Tournament. Of the 13 Bullets that registered goals, 10 tossed in at least two tallies.
Sophomore
Maria Nemeth (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) led the way with a career-high tying three goals to go with one assist and a personal best seven draw controls. Sophomore
Liza Barr (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) recorded two goals and three assists, while senior
Katie Landry (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) tallied two goals and five assists on the way to moving into ninth in career points (235) in program history.
Sophomores
Courtney Patterson (Whitehouse Station, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional) and
Ella Orzechowski (Elkridge, Md./Howard) each tallied a pair of goals and combined for 10 draw controls. Senior
Katie Willis (Baltimore, Md./Notre Dame Prep) and freshman
Kerry Ullman (Fairfield, Conn./Academy of our Lady of Mercy Lauralton Hall) each notched two goals with the senior dishing out a pair of helpers.
Gettysburg was off and running from the outset with Landry contributing to a pair of goals in the first 44 seconds. The senior scored 18 seconds into the game and then assisted to Barr 26 seconds later. A pass from Barr to Willis made it 7-0 less than five minutes into the contest.
Bryn Mawr (2-9, 0-7 CC) tallied two of the next three goals to bring the score to 8-2 with 22:58 to play. Orzechowski tossed in two goals during a 5-0 run that gave the Bullets an 11-goal lead (13-2) with just over 10 minutes to go until halftime.
Gettysburg out-scored the hosts 10-0 in the final period. Nemeth scored three of the first four goals of the period to put the visitors in front 18-3 with 22:45 to play. The Owls managed just three shots at the cage in the second half, all of which were turned away by sophomore goalie
Abbie Lee (Hingham, Mass./Hingham).
The Bullets held a 38-11 edge in shots and a 12-8 lead in ground balls. Gettysburg also tied its highest draw control output in the last 18 years with a 24-5 advantage.
The Bullets make their final regular-season home appearance against McDaniel College on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
