CHESTERTOWN, Md.--After trailing for most of the game, Swarthmore College Baseball beat Washington College (Md.), 6-3, on Tuesday.
The Garnet scored one run in six different innings, allowing junior starting pitcher
Charles Groppe to pick up his second win of the season.
Junior
Charles Levitt led Swarthmore offensively, going 3-for-5 with two doubles and his team-leading sixth home run of the season. That ties a Garnet single-season record. In his freshman and sophomore years combined, Levitt hit three home runs.
The Shoremen scored all three of their runs in the first three innings. A pair of freshmen had the key hits for Swarthmore, as
Sam Jacobson's single tied it in the sixth, and
Coleson Hebble's triple in the top of the seventh gave the Garnet a 4-3 lead.
Sophomore
Jared Gillen went yard for the first time this season in the top of the ninth.
To close out the game, sophomore
Jack Corkery earned his fourth save of the year. That's more than any Swarthmore pitcher had last year.
Sophomore
AJ Liu also chipped in with an RBI, and sophomore
Cole Beeker joined Levitt, Jacobson and Hebble on the list of Swarthmore players with two hits.
The Garnet face Washington at Clothier Field on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
