SWARTHMORE, Pa. -- Swarthmore College Field Hockey earned its first Centennial Conference win of the season with a 3-2 overtime victory versus McDaniel on Saturday.
Garnet (4-4, 1-2) sophomore
Halsey Hutchinson scored her third goal of the season in the 11th minute. She finished from close range near the left post off a pass from senior
Kathleen Carmichael.
Swarthmore freshman
Marion Carr gave her team a 2-0 lead over the Green Terror (0-7, 0-3) in the 20th minute with her second goal on the year. Freshman defender Samantha Mecock received a corner from senior
Ali Baratta and passed it to Carr who ripped a shot from the right side. Meacock leads the Garnet with three assists this season.
With 22:15 remaining in the second half, sophomore
Samie Martin made a defensive save that kept Swarthmore ahead 2-0. She snuck in behind Garnet senior goalie
Zelda Bank to slap a shot out of the air.
Bank made five saves in the match against 11 McDaniel shots. She allowed the two goals during the 65th and 66th minutes.
Baratta scored the game winner on a diving shot from the left side that went between the goalies legs. That was Baratta's team-best fourth goal of the season.
Swarthmore tied their season high by taking 24 shots in the match. The last time the Garnet took 24 shots in a match was in a 5-1 win against Immaculata on Sept. 8. Swarthmore hasn't taken more than 11 shots in any other match.
The Garnet welcome non-conference opponent Neumann Unviersity to Clothier Field on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
