In its first game at Clothier Field this season, Swarthmore College Softball swept Immaculata University on Saturday afternoon.
The Garnet beat the Mighty Macs, 2-1 and 6-2, improving to a 10-2 record this season.
Game One: Swarthmore 2, Immaculata 1
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the sixth inning, during which doubles from Garnet sophomores
Kennedy Kings and
Emilie Morse scored one run apiece.
In the top of the seventh, Immaculata responded with a run of its own. However, Swarthmore senior pitcher
Emily Bowman kept the damage to a minimum and picked up her third win on the year. She pitched all seven innings and struck out seven batters in the game.
Game Two: Swarthmore 6, Immaculata 2
Kings wasted no time helping her team take a lead, driving in junior
Marit Vike on a double in the bottom of the first inning. It wasn't until the top of the sixth that a team would score again. This time it was the Mighty Macs tying the game on a single up the middle.
The Garnet responded quickly and loudly, plating five base runners in the bottom of the inning. Kings, Morse, freshman
Sam Wagner, senior
Frankie Ponziani and junior
Hannah Thompson were responsible for the RBIs.
Pitching a complete game, freshman
Lucy Decker upped her record to 2-0 in the circle this season.
Swarthmore welcomes Penn State Berks to Clothier on Tuesday for another doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
