GETTYSBURG, Pa. - The Dickinson women's track and field team began their 2023 outdoor campaign by claiming their third-straight Little Three Championship crown on Saturday morning after knocking off both local rivals Franklin & Marshall and Gettysburg.
Sprints
It was all Devils in the 100m as first-year
Erin Olsavsky won the event with a 12.89, followed by
Sara Penuela at 13.07. Dickinson then took up spots four through seven thanks to the group of
Abbe Kitchin (13.62),
Eliza Gichner (14.17),
Mariana Penuela (14.26) and
Catarina Acosta (14.68).Â
The Red and White occupied all three spots on the podium for the 100m hurdles with
Darya Mikusova winning the race at 16.24, barely edging out
Sophia Kovatsis with a 16.34.
Naomi Alperin rounded out the trio by hitting the line in 17.14.
Sylvie McMaken-Marsh rounded out the Top-5 in 19.10.Â
Kitchen and
Maddie Kyle secured Top-3 results during the 200m by posting times of 28.20 (2nd) and 28.25 (3rd) respectively.
Maddie Gidman was just off the podium at 29.30, while
Cyara Lambert finished in seventh (30.67).Â
Dickinson went "one-two" in the 400m with M. Penuela leading the charge with a time of 1:03.26, followed right behind by
Emerlee Simons (1:03.72).
Mikusova wrote her name into the meet record book during the 400m hurdles posting winning time of 1:04.53.
Lily Swain (1:14.38) and Lillian Cusa (1:18.27) also took part in the event.
Distance
Amiyah Priebe was the highest finishing DC athlete for the 800m grabbing second at 2:27.17 and was accompanied in the Top-10 by
Charlotte Kratovil-Lavelle in seventh (2:43.82.).
Two different Devils were Top-5 in the 1500m as
Myra Naqvi claimed second with a 4:57.19, while
Maddie Garber earned fifth at 5:11.77. The trio of
Abigail Touhey (5:16.37),
Sammy Jo Barnes (5:17.87) and
Elizabeth Cassell (5:26.22) took up spots seven through nine.
The Red and White filled the podium for the 5000m with Naqvi leading the way at 19:16.06, followed in the Top-3 by Cassell (19:45.51) and Garber (19:45.53).
Specialty
Priebe was tops in the 3000m steeplechase after clocking in at 11:45.64, while Kratovil-Lavelle landed in fourth with a 12:14.95.
Relays
The unit of Kitchin, Mikusova, S. Penuela and Simons claimed third for the 4x400m by stopping the clock at 4:34.83.
The Red and White were tops for the 4x800m thanks to the team of
Meg Tate, Barnes, Naqvi and Touhey posting a 10:15.64.
Field
Two Devils were on the podium of the hammer throw with
Abby Everett taking second (38.78m) and Jenn Deep (37.97m) claiming third.
Claire Shearer also took part in the event finishing fifth with a toss of 30.50m.
Four DC athletes were in the Top-5 for the discus as
Sarayne Forbes won the event at 35.50m, followed by Everett (30.79m). Deep and Shearer earned fourth (26.01m) and fifth (24.82m) respectively.
The trio of
Jordan Schucker (2nd - 31.16m), Lambert (3rd - 25.99m) and
Taylor Maynard (7th - 14.79m) all competed in the javelin.Â
Shearer seized victory in the shot put with a launch of 10.40m, while Everett claimed third at 10.03m.Â
Leah Biwott added to the list of Dickinson winners on the day as she bested the field during the high jump clearing 1.52m. Kovatsis gave it a good showing as well and landed in third at 1.32m.
Dickinson held down spots two through six for the long jump thanks to S. Penuela (5.01m), M. Penuela (4.84m),
Elizabeth Lieb (4.78m), Biwott (4.68m) and Gidman (4.39m).
Lieb was second in the triple jump after a leap of 8.80m.
In the pole vault Swain and McMaken-Marsh claimed fourth (2.60m) and fifth (2.30m).
Team Scores
Dickinson won the team scoring with 179 points, followed by Franklin & Marshall (126) and Gettysburg (107).
In the Starting Block
The Red and White return to action next Saturday (4/1) when they head to Allentown for the Muhlenberg College Invitational at 10 am.
