Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball Has Streak Snapped, Bounces Back Quickly

LANCASTER, Pa.--On a six-game win streak, Swarthmore College baseball took its 20-6 record to Franklin & Marshall College and split with the Diplomats.

The Garnet had 15 hits in the first game compared to F&M's seven but lost 8-5. Swarthmore wasted no time getting back on track, winning the second game 15-1.

With an 8-2 Centennial Conference record, Swarthmore is tied with Johns Hopkins University for first place in the league.

Game One: Franklin & Marshall 8, Swarthmore 5

The Diplomats scored two runs in the first two innings off of sophomore Sawyer Lake. The Garnet were blanked until the fifth inning, during which they scored three runs and took the lead on hits by sophomores Cole Beeker and Jared Gillen.

Franklin & Marshall responded quickly, scoring one in the bottom of the fifth and five more in the sixth and seventh. RBI singles from freshman Sam Jacobson and junior Jackson Roberts were not enough to extend the team's win streak.

Roberts, the conference's leader in batting average at a .419 clip, went 4-for-5 with an RBI. That was his first four-hit game of the season.

Game Two: Swarthmore 15, Franklin & Marshall 1

The Garnet gave junior starting pitcher Ricky Conti early run support, scoring four in the top of the second. Nontheless, Conti did not need the support as he allowed one run over eight innings and picked up his team-high sixth win of the year.

Swarthmore hit three home runs in the game. They came off the bats of Beeker (two this season), sophomore AJ Liu (two) and freshman Coleson Hebble (three).

The Garnet didn't blow the game open until late, scoring 11 of their runs in the last four innings.

Beeker had six RBIs, going 3-for-5 with two runs scored.

Sophomore catcher Kenji Yoshii went 3-for-3 with a double and three runs scored.

Gillen, Elliott and junior Charles Levitt contributed with two hits each.

Swarthmore welcomes Ursinus College to Clothier Field on Tuesday for one game starting at 3:30 p.m.
