GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Freshman
Megan Wojnar (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) picked up right where she left off last semester, securing a pair of victories as the Gettysburg College women's swimming team dropped a non-conference dual against the University of Mary Washington 149-112 Saturday afternoon.
Wojnar accounted for two of Gettysburg's (5-2) five victories against Mary Washington (8-1). The first-year, who was named Centennial Conference Swimmer of the Week at the end of the opening semester, picked up her first win the 200 backstroke by nearly five seconds with a time of 2:10.45. Wojnar followed that performance by touching the wall first in the 200 IM (2:15.43). She also finished second in the 200 free (1:58.52).
Sophomore
Katherine Sears (Glenmoore, Pa./Downingtown East) came away with a victory in the 1,000 free, overcoming Claudia Keller in the final 50 yards to win by six-hundredths of a second at 10:48.24. Keller came back to beat out the Gettysburg sophomore for the top spot in the 500 free with Sears finishing in 5:24.75.
Junior
Kate Crilly (Shrewsbury, N.J./Ranney School) sped to victory in the 100 freestyle, out-distancing a trio of Eagle swimmers with a time of 55.08. She also placed second in the 50 free with a time of 25.41.
Gettysburg closed the dual with a victory in the 400 free relay as Crilly raced to a 54.54 split in the final 100 yards to overtake Mary Washington's foursome. Senior
Lindsay Hayden (Enfield, Conn./Suffield Academy), freshmen
Katie Cooper (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) and
Cate Kosko (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury East) joined the junior on the relay, which finished with a time of 3:44.25.
Runner-up showings were turned in by junior
Becca Maroney (Darien, Conn./Darien) in the 100 back (1:03.37), Cooper in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.18) and 200 breaststroke (2:32.02), and sophomore
Sydney Jaramillo (Woolwich Township, N.J./Kingsway Regional) in the 200 butterfly (2:19.12).
Gettysburg hosts Swarthmore College for Senior Day next Saturday, Feb. 2, at 1 p.m.
