Men's Lacrosse Thwarted By Diplomats

LANCASTER, Pa.—Things were looking okay for Swarthmore College Men's Lacrosse through the first quarter against Franklin & Marshall, but then the host Diplomats got hot and scored 15 consecutive goals. Swarthmore fell 16-2 on the road to the No. 11 Diplomats to begin Centennial Conference play.

Swarthmore evened the score at 1-1 with 5:26 remaining in the first quarter, but unfortunately didn't score again until the 5:22 mark in the fourth quarter.

Two freshmen scored for Swarthmore on Saturday. Andrew Estella netted the Garnet's first-quarter goal and Mason Evarts scored in the fourth.

A positive takeaway from Saturday's game was Swarthmore holding the 11-10 advantage on the faceoff. Ryan Izquierdo won six tries and Hunter Luber added five wins in the middle.

F&M peppered Swarthmore with 56 shots (to Swarthmore's 20). John Calia did what he could to stop the onslaught and recorded 17 saves in 52 minutes. Frankie Dillon closed out the final eight minutes in net and had three saves.

Swarthmore (5-2, 0-1 Centennial) looks to bounce back at home on Saturday against Ursinus College.
