YORK, Pa. – Seventh-ranked York (Pa.) College ran off a six-goal run in the first half and held off No. 2 Gettysburg College down the stretch for a 14-12 decision in non-conference women's lacrosse contest Friday.
Junior
Steph Colson (Westminster, Md./Manchester Valley) led Gettysburg (11-2) with five goals, three ground balls, three caused turnovers, and six draw controls. Sophomore
Courtney Patterson (Whitehouse Station, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional) tallied a pair of goals and five draw controls.
York (11-3) was led by Meghan Fox's five goals. Regan Cook added four goals and an assist, while Kayleigh Phillips corralled six draw controls. Goalkeeper Charlotte Wright recorded 11 saves.
Patterson and Colson gave the Bullets a 2-0 edge less than 11 minutes into the game, but York ran off a six-goal streak to seize the upper-hand. Fox tossed in a trio of goals and back-to-back tallies by Caitlin Rankin made it 6-2 with 7:13 left in the first half.
Colson scored Gettysburg's next three goals as the visitors sliced the deficit down to 7-5 with less than three minutes to go before the break. Wright made a pair of saves in the final 1:27 and Cook turned in a goal to put the score at 8-5 at the half.

Katie Landry (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) scored the first and junior
Lauren Cole (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) tallied the second on a free-position shot to slice the deficit to one (8-7) with 26:23 remaining.
In a theme that carried on throughout the final frame, York answered Gettysburg's call with a pair of goals. The teams traded blows until a decisive three-goal run by the hosts put the advantage at 14-10 with 12:06 to play.
A goal by sophomore
Liza Barr (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) pulled Gettysburg within three (14-11) with 11:33 to go. The Bullets were held off the scoreboard for the next seven minutes as York held possession. The Spartans managed to run off over four minutes until the visitors regained the ball with 5:25 left.
Landry found freshman
Kerry McKeever (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) for a goal that made it 14-12 with just over four minutes on the board. Colson tracked down the next draw, but Wright posted a save on a shot by sophomore
Ella Orzechowski (Elkridge, Md./Howard) to maintain the advantage. The Bullets caused a turnover with just over a minute to play, but a final attempt to cut the deficit was thwarted with a failed clear on the team's final possession.
Shots (32-32) and turnovers (12-12) were even. York held a 19-16 edge in ground balls, while Gettysburg won the battle in the draw circle 15-13.

Bailey Pilder (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) finished with nine saves, four ground balls, and a caused turnover for Gettysburg. Senior
Ali Gorab (Southport, Conn./Ludlowe) and sophomore
Claire Macatee (Street, Md./North Harford) each posted two ground balls and a caused turnover.
Gettysburg resumes its Centennial Conference schedule at Bryn Mawr College Saturday at 1 p.m.
