Muhlenberg's Kasten Earns Pitcher of the Week

Kasten pitched a nine-inning complete-game four-hitter to beat nationally ranked Johns Hopkins in the second game of a doubleheader. He needed just 73 pitches in the gem and allowed only one runner past second base. He struck out three - all in a row in the second inning - and had five 1-2-3 innings against the Blue Jays, who averaged just under seven runs per game in the CC.

 

Notebook:

Johns Hopkins sophomore Nick Burns had one of his best starts of the season against Washington College, giving up just one run in seven innings and only allowing four runners to reach base. He struck out five hitters and did not walk a batter. The sophomore improved to 3-0 on the season, with all three wins coming in Centennial Conference starts.

Swarthmore junior Brian Gibbs struck out a career-high 11 batters and allowed just two runs in nine innings as the Garnet beat Ursinus by a 5-2 score on April 29th.

McDaniel senior Marty Windisch tossed a complete game on Saturday as part of a 6-2 victory over Ursinus in the first game of a key doubleheader to close the season. He struck out seven and scattered seven hits over the nine innings. He also hit .444 on the week, including recording five hits in the game after he pitched nine innings.

Burns was phenomenal this week, allowing just one run and five hits in 13 innings pitched. The senior started Saturday against Ursinus and went the distance, striking out nine while giving up just four hits and one run in a complete game win. The team captain also came out of the bullpen Tuesday at Gettysburg and threw four shutout innings while allowing just one hit and striking out four. In the two appearances combined, Burns was 1-0 with a 0.69 ERA and 13 K's. Opponents tallied just five hits and walked once in those 13 innings.

Power went 2-0 with a 1.10 ERA over a pair of Centennial Conference starts, pitching at least eight innings in both games. In a 3-0 victory at Dickinson, he tossed 8 1/3 shutout innings, striking out six while allowing just five hits and one walk. He also worked eight innings in a 9-6 win over Swarthmore, scattering 12 hits and four runs (two earned), walking none, and striking out four.

Kronick went 7 2/3 innings at Washington College on Friday, allowing one unearned run and striking out 10 to pick up the win and remain undefeated on the mound this season.

Woodard recorded 10 strikeouts in eight scoreless innings to earn the win against Swarthmore on Saturday. He allowed no walks and scattered five hits on the day.

Kronick threw 9.0 innings on the week and struck out 19 batters while walking just two and allowing just one run. On Saturday, he went the full seven innings against Penn State-York, striking out 16 batters against just one walk.

Herring posted his second consecutive 10-strikeout performance last Saturday in a 3-2 win over St. John Fisher. Herring lasted seven innings and gave up just three hits and no runs, lowering his ERA to 1.04 on the season. He also picked up his third win and is now 3-0 on the year.

Starting pitcher Androconis went 2-0 last week, tossing 12 shutout innings and striking out 10. The sophomore allowed only four hits and one walk.

Power opened the year with 13 consecutive scoreless innings, striking out 13 while earning a pair of victories. In the team's season-opening 12-0 win at Hood, the southpaw tossed six scoreless frames to pick up the win. He followed up with a sparkling performance in Gettysburg's 12-0 victory versus Rivier in Florida, firing a three-hit, seven-inning shutout while racking up a career-high 12 strikeouts. He did not walk a batter and faced just three over the minimum.

Kasten pitched a complete-game three-hitter against Gallaudet in his first career start. The righty, who tossed only two innings last season, took a no-hitter into the sixth and allowed only two baserunners past first base in the game. He finished off the 8-2 win with his fourth strikeout.
