Around the Conference
Dickinson continued its trend of following a loss with a victory, winning at McDaniel. Junior RB Chris Soulas (Far Hills, N.J.) had a career day carrying 19 times for 158 yards and three touchdowns, while classmate Cedric Madden (Norristown, Pa.) picked up 122 yards with a score. It is the first time the Devils have had two backs go over 100 yards since Nov. 5, 2011. Soulas nearly had a fourth score, but his fumble into the end zone was recovered by Devin Gaby (Arlington, Va.). Senior QB Cole Ahnell (Rockville, Md.), who is just 29 yards away from 5,000 in career total offense, has thrown just 38 passes in the Devils' three wins (22 completions).
Franklin & Marshall impressed the alums on Homecoming with a 42-12 win over Moravian. Junior QB Matt Magarity (Southhampton, Pa.) had a huge day throwing three TD passes while running for two more scores. He is 23-of-32 through the air over the last two games. Senior RB Scott LaValva (Bangor, Pa.) rushed for 213 yards with a touchdown, becoming the first Diplomat back to surpass 200 yards since 2007. Senior WR Jordan Zackery (York, Pa.) caught 13 balls for 162 yards and two TDs to set the program career record with 242 receptions.
Gettysburg was held to a season-low 77 passing yards in its loss at Johns Hopkins. Junior RB Kyle Wigley (Medford, N.J.) picked up his fifth career 100-yard effort with 132 on 12 carries, scoring on runs of 27 and 40 yards. Senior Nick Ulassin (Branchburg, N.J.) became the sixth Bullet to reach 1,000 career yards on kick returns. Senior Zach Miller (Madison, Conn.) needs 37 passing yards to move into third place on the Bullet career list and 307 to become the third Gettysburg QB to throw for 4,000. Thirteen of Gettysburg's 25 scoring drives have been under two minutes in length this season.
Johns Hopkins jumped out to a 34-0 haltime lead on its way to a convincing 37-14 win over Gettysburg. It is the 174th career win for coach Jim Margraff, which ties him with Morgan State's Eddie Hurt (1929-59) as the winningest college football coach in Maryland state history. Senior QB Braden Anderson (Great Falls, Va.) threw for 306 yards and four TDs, while soph Bradley Munday (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) caught six balls for 124 yards and a score. Anderson has completed 73 percent of his passes (104-143) over the last five games. The JHU defense recorded a season-high five sacks. The Blue Jay depth on defense has been a key, as nine different players have 20+ tackles, 11 have at least one sack and eight have an interception to their credit.
Juniata fell to 3-4 with a 42-13 loss at Muhlenberg. Senior QB Ward Udinski (Doylestown, Pa.) threw for 269 yards, including a 61-yard TD pass to senior WR Isaiah Slutter (Hawley, Pa.). Udinski is now 111 yards away from tying Jay Leonard '09 for the program's career lead in total offense. Slutter caught seven passes for 105 yards, while WR Kirby Breault (Elizabethtown, Pa.) snared seven for 103. Junior LB Luke Navin (Bel Air, Md.) had his first career interception.
McDaniel fell short against Dickinson on Homecoming, 33-28. The Terror is now 54-26-1 all-time in front of the alums. Sophomore QB Matty Callahan (Germantown, Md.) threw for a career-best 281 yards with three TD passes. Senior WR Nick O'Melia (Taneytown, Md.) caught six aerials for 105 yards and two scores. Sophomore LB Matt Quattrone (Carlisle, Pa.), son of Dickinson defensive coordinator Joel Quattrone, led the defense with 11 tackles.
Moravian dropped its third straight game, falling at Franklin & Marshall. The offense has struggled during the stretch, scoring just 11 points per game. The Greyhounds spotted the Diplomats a 28-0 third-period lead before sophomore RB Chris Negron (Allentown, Pa.) scored on a 1-yard run to break the skein. Soph QB Mike Hayes (Philadelphia, Pa.) threw an 18-yard TD pass to classmate Jalen Snyder-Scipio (Pottstown, Pa.) for the other points. The 72 rushing yards were a season-low for Moravian.
Muhlenberg rolled up 513 yards of total offense in a 42-13 win over Juniata. Sophomore QB Nick Palladino (Millstone Twp., N.J.) threw for a career-high 373 yards – the fifth-highest in team history, and three TDs. He did throw his first pick of the season, ending a streak of 195 consecutive without an interception. RB Max Cepeda (River Edge, N.J.) rushed 13 times for 116 yards and two scores, tying a Centennial record of five 100-yard fames by a freshman. Senior WR Cody Geyer (Wanaque, N.J.) caught fiver passes for 151 yards, giving the Mules a 300-yard passer, 100-yard rusher and a 150-yard receiver for just the fourth time ever.
Susquehanna could not make it back-to-back wins, falling at Ursinus. Senior RB Ian Richardson (Hatfield, Pa.) ran for 101 yards and caught a touchdown pass, while junior RB Kris Stern (Duncansville, Pa.) scored his first collegiate TD to round out the Crusader scoring. Freshman QB Nick Crusco (Oak Ridge, N.J.) has thrown a TD pass in all seven of his collegiate starts. Junior LB Jim Barry (Staten Island, N.Y.), the Conference's leading tackler, made 16 stops to lead the defense. It was his third 16-tackle game of the season. Susquehanna has had three different drives of longer than eight minutes this season – two ending in touchdowns.
Ursinus did not get caught looking ahead to its showdown with Johns Hopkins, rolling past Susquehanna, 44-14. It is UC's fifth straight win over the Crusaders since SU joined the CC in 2010. Senior RB Taylor Paul (Hummelstown, Pa.) carried 11 times for 127 yards with a touchdown to earn the Kenneth R. Walker Trophy as the Bears' Homecoming Game MVP. Soph RB Corey Kelly (Conshohocken, Pa.) ran for a pair of TDs. Senior DB Matt Glowacki (Spring City, Pa.) returned a third-quarter punt 65 yards for a touchdown. This came moments after he was named the school's Homecoming King at halftime. Ursinus secured a winning season for the sixth straight year, setting a program record.
