Colin Egan, Johns Hopkins

BALTIMORE, MD -- The Johns Hopkins football team won't open the 2015 season for three more months, but the Blue Jays are already making news with a number 11 ranking the Sporting News Preseason Top 25 and preseason All-America selections for senior guard Colin Egan from D3football.com and the Sporting News as well.

Johns Hopkins posted an 11-1 record, won a sixth consecutive Centennial Conference title and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Playoffs last season. The 11 wins are a school single-season record and the Blue Jays ended the 2014 season ranked 10th in both the AFCA and D3football.com polls.

Egan is the latest in a long line of standout offensive linemen produced by Johns Hopkins. He earned First Team D3football.com All-America honors last season, when he also grabbed First Team D3football.com All-South, First Team All-ECAC South, First Team All-Centennial and First Team CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District as well. He was one of just three non-seniors to earn First Team D3football.com All-America honors on offense last season.

Johns Hopkins will open the 2015 season on Saturday, September 5 when the Blue Jays travel to Ashland, Virginia to take on Randolph-Macon. The Blue Jays' 10-game schedule includes five games at home, including matchups with Muhlenberg (9-2 in 2014) and Ursinus (7-3). The Mules are ranked 22nd in the Sporting News Preseason top 25 and finished one game behind JHU in the final Centennial standings last season.

Steve Ambs, Ursinus

With the start of preseason just weeks away, the Ursinus College football team has received its first honor of the 2015 season.

Senior defensive end Steve Ambs (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) was named as a second-team preseason All-American by D3Football.com.

Ambs , who was a second-team All-Region selection by D3Football.com in 2014, was a first-team All-Centennial selection last season.

He led the Bears and the Centennial Conference in sacks with 12, sack yardage at 77, fumble recoveries with three, tackles for loss with 20.5 for 109 yards and was fourth in the conference in total tackles with 84. He was also named a Harris Award finalist in November.

The award is presented to the nation's top small college defensive player in Division II, III and the NAIA and is named after former Dallas Cowboys free safety Cliff Harris, who played in five Super Bowls and was named to the Pro Bowl six times.

Ursinus opens preseason camp on August 14, will open the 2015 season on Thursday, September 3 with a trip to Division II Millersville.
