Complete 2019 AFCA Division III Coaches All-America Team
A trio of Centennial Conference football players have been named to the 2019 American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division III All-America Team. Muhlenberg's Frankie Feaster and Ryan Curtiss and Susquehanna's Danial Shelton earned the prestigious honor from the AFCA. Feaster and Shelton were first-teamers while Curtiss was selected to the second team.
Shelton and Curtiss were two of just five players on this year's team to earn back-to-back All-America nods.
A senior defensive back, Shelton will leave Susquehanna as a two-time AFCA All-America selection after garnering second team honors last season. He is the first Susquehanna player to repeat as an AFCA All-America pick. He is a four-time All-Centennial Conference performer, including three straight appearances on the first team.
This season, Shelton contributed 30 tackles, five pass breakups (15th in Centennial), 3.5 TFLs, two interceptions (11th in Centennial), two sacks, and one forced fumble. Shelton wraps up his SU career with 177 tackles on 116 solos and 61 assists plus 36 pass breakups, nine interceptions, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery in 43 games played. Within his 177 tackles, 7.5 tackles were for loss.
Feaster, a defensive lineman, became the sixth Mule (the second from the defense) selected to the AFCA All-America team, which began for Division III in 1972. Curtiss, a second-team pick in 2019 after making the first team last year, is the first Muhlenberg player named to the AFCA All-America team twice.
This is the first time the Mules have had two players chosen to the AFCA All-America team in the same season.
Feaster was named Centennial Conference defensive player of the year for the second consecutive season after leading a Muhlenberg unit that ranks third in Division III in scoring defense, allowing only 9.8 points per game. Among his 54 tackles are 20½ tackles for loss and 11½ sacks. He also is tied for fourth in Division III with four blocked kicks (three punts and an extra point).
Feaster ranks third among active Division III players with his school-record total of 31 sacks. He also ranks among the active career leaders with 52½ tackles for loss.
Curtiss, who was unanimously picked to the All-CC first team for the third straight year, leads the Mules in receptions (54), receiving yards (749) and receiving touchdowns (a school-record-tying 14). He leads all Division III players listed as tight ends in receiving touchdowns and has also rushed for a pair of scores out of the wildcat formation.
During the season, Curtiss became the CC all-time leader in receptions (141), receiving yards (1,917) and receiving touchdowns (28) by a tight end. He is second on Muhlenberg's all-time list in touchdown catches.
