Five Named NFHCA All-America

Longstreth / NFHCA All-America Team

Five Centennial Conference field hockey players have been honored as Longstreth / NFHCA Division III All-Americans, announced by the organization on Wednesday. Franklin & Marshall junior Erin Coverdale and Johns Hopkins senior Grace Hillman received first-team honors, F&M senior Ilianna Santangelo and JHU junior Katie McErlean collected second-team recognition, and Ursinus senior Bridget Sherry landed on the third team.

F&M's Coverdale received first team distinction for the second year in a row. She was also named to the NFHCA All-Region First Team, the Centennial Conference Offensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season and earned All-CC First Team honors. The junior led the CC in points (44), goals (18) and tied for second with six assists.

JHU's Hillman, who was named the NFHCA South Player of the Year earlier this week, earns All-America honors for the second straight year, becoming just the fifth player in program history to do so. She is the first Blue Jay to earn First Team All-America honors since Leah Horton in 2008 and is just the fourth in program history to earn the honor. The two-time Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Year, Hillman captained the Blue Jays to an historic season. She scored the game-winning goal in overtime at top-ranked, and previously unbeaten, Messiah to send JHU to the final four for the first time in program history. Hillman finished her career with eight goals, including four game-winners, and five assists.

F&M's Santangelo was named to the second team, earning her first All-America nod.  The senior goalkeeper finished the year fourth in the country in goals against average (0.53) and fifth in save percentage (.851). Santangelo ended her career as the program record-holder in wins (63) and shutouts (32).

JHU's McErlean earns All-America honors for the first time after having a career year. She posted career highs in goals (9), assists (7) and points (25) for an offense that led the Centennial Conference in scoring. McErlean led the team in helpers and ranked second in goals and points. With three years under her belt, she is tied for 20th in school history with 12 career assists.

Ursinus' Sherry was named to the third team, capping a remarkable season that included first team All-Centennial Conference and first team All-South Region laurels. Etching herself firmly into program lore as one of the best defensive players in Ursinus history, Sherry earned four all-conference and all-region honors, moving up to the first team in both categories as a junior and senior. An All-American for the first time, Sherry appeared in 79 games with 72 starts for her career, logging eight goals and an assist in addition to six defensive saves. Sherry helped lead the Bears to two CC championships and an berth in the NCAA Final Four in 2015.
