GETTYSBURG, Pa. – For the third year in a row, the Gettysburg College men's and women's swimming teams are hosting a "Gettysburg Goes Gold" fundraising event to support pediatric cancer research when the Bullets take on Dickinson College in a Centennial Conference home meet on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Â
The men's and women's swimming teams, along with the Gettysburg College cross country and women's basketball teams, as well as the Greek life community and the Dickinson College swimming teams, are joining together to raise money for the Make Some Noise for Kids Cancer Foundation. This foundation supports families and funds research for pediatric cancer.
Â
Both Gettysburg and Dickinson will be wearing golden caps as they "Race for Gold" to help raise awareness and support.
The event will be attended by Make Some Noise founder
Malcom Sutherland-Foggio, a New Jersey boy who was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 10.
Â
Last year, the Bullets – along with the University of Mary Washington swimming teams – raised over $6,000 for the foundation. Senior
Mike Harmon (Shippensburg, Pa./home-schooled), who has spearheaded the effort, was later interviewed by Jeff Commings of
swimmingworldmagazine.com as part of the website's "Morning Swim Show." The video can be accessed here:
