Haverford Women's Soccer Welcomes Delaware County Special Olympics

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College women's soccer team welcomed the Delaware County Special Olympics team to campus Wednesday evening. During their visit, the Special Olympics team ran through drills and stations worked by the current squad.

While learning from the varsity players, the Delaware County Special Olympics team worked on dribbling, shooting, and passing. Be sure to watch the video to check out some of the drills that took place on Wednesday night.

The clinic is another example of Haverford's commitment to the NCAA Division III Special Olympics initiative. The NCAA encourages D-III student-athletes across the country to participate in existing Special Olympics events, create their own events, or otherwise serve to support Special Olympics organization.

Last spring, the Delaware County Special Olympics team came to Haverford College and the Gooding '84 Arena to take part in a basketball scrimmage that was hosted by the men's and women's basketball teams, along with the volleyball program.

The purpose of the NCAA's initiative is to improve the lives of Special Olympics athletes through their involvement with D-III student-athletes and to foster a mutual learning experience between D-III student-athletes and Special Olympics athletes.

The women's soccer team's clinic with the Delaware County Special Olympics is featured in the October Division III Special Olympics Spotlight Poll. Visit the Division III Special Olympics Partnership page to vote for Haverford women's soccer team.
