Centennial Conference Cancels Remaining Spring Competitions

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Centennial Conference, in consultation with the Presidents Council, has made the difficult decision to cancel all spring athletics competitions and championships for the remainder of the academic year in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This decision follows the Centennial’s previous announcement to suspend the spring sports season indefinitely along with the NCAA’s cancellation of all winter and spring championships.

The majority of Centennial Conference institutions have announced a semester-long transition to online learning. Due to the constantly-evolving nature of COVID-19 and its public health impact, this challenging decision was made with the best interests of all of our constituents in mind. The health, safety and wellness of our student-athletes and campus communities remain our top priority. 

 

"The Centennial Conference would like to acknowledge all of the tremendous student-athletes, coaches, administrators, families and fans who are impacted by this decision," said Executive Director Portia Hoeg. "Initially we were optimistic we could return to competition in a few weeks; however, the rapid growth of and developing facts surrounding this pandemic now require our league to do our part in protecting the health and well-being of our constituents. This decision was not reached lightly, but ultimately this is what must be done."

In response to COVID-19 and its impact on the 2020 spring season, NCAA Division III has approved several measures, including an additional semester and season of eligibility for all student-athletes participating in spring sports, the removal of a minimum threshold of sponsored spring sports, and the flexibility for schools to assist students with travel, lodging and meals as a result of campus displacement.
