Centennial Conference Athletes of the Week - March 22-28

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Week two of the Centennial Conference season featured numerous standout performances in the sports of baseball, softball, men's lacrosse, women's lacrosse, men's tennis and women's tennis. 

Weekly conference awards were collected by Max Ruvo and Mike Smith from Washington College baseball, Grace Moery from Washington College softball, Megan Hughes from Gettysburg softball, Tucker Booth from Dickinson men's lacrosse, Kyle Gittelman from Washington College men's lacrosse, Kerry McKeever from Gettysburg women's lacrosse, Sydney Wingate from Washington College women's lacrosse, Jason Grant from Muhlenberg men's tennis, and Caitlin Vinsonhaler from Ursinus women's tennis.

BASEBALL

Player of the Week
Max Ruvo, Jr., OF, Washington College
North Caldwell, N.J. | West Essex
Ruvo hit .700 (7-for-10) with a home run, three RBIs and six runs scored in a doubleheader sweep of McDaniel on Saturday. In game one, he went 3-for-4 with a home run, double and walk in the Shoremen's 11-2 win. He also tallied a stolen base in the victory. In game two, he highlighted his 4-for-6, three-run and two-RBI performance with the game-tying single in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game at 12-12. He would later score the winning run to cap the 13-12 win and sweep on a double by teammate Chris Baker. Ruvo posted a .727 on-base percentage and slugged 1.200.
 
Pitcher of the Week 
Mike Smith, Sr., LHP, Washington College
Springfield, Pa. | Springfield
Smith tossed six scoreless innings in picking up the win in an 11-2 game one victory over McDaniel on Saturday. Smith struck out seven, walked just two and scattered three hits as he had a pair of 1-2-3 innings.

SOFTBALL
 
Player of the Week
Grace Moery, Sr., OF, Washington College
Alexandria, Va. | West Potomac
Moery hit .500 (3-for-6) with two home runs and four RBIs in a doubleheader split with McDaniel on Saturday. In game one, Moery socked a three-run home run to cap a five-run bottom of the first inning in a 7-3 Washington College win. In game two, she went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning. For the doubleheader, she had nine total bases and slugged 1.500.
 
Pitcher of the Week
Megan Hughes, Fr., P, Gettysburg
Woodstock, Md. | Marriotts Ridge
Hughes earned back-to-back Pitcher of the Week honors after notching her second complete game of the season against Dickinson in game one of Saturday's twinbill. The freshman tossed a season-high five strikeouts and allowed only one unearned run and three hits in six innings of work.. In 13 innings pitched this year, she has struck out nine and has only allowed one run on seven hits.

MEN'S LACROSSE
 
Offensive Player of the Week
Tucker Booth, Jr., M, Dickinson
Timonium, Md. | Boys' Latin
Booth scored five goals, including the game-winner in the fourth overtime, to lead Dickinson past Muhlenberg, 11-10. The Red Devils erased a 7-3 halftime deficit to force OT and went on to improve to 2-0 on the season. Booth found the back of the net on 71.4% of his shots and added one ground ball in the win.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Kyle Gittelman, Jr., D, Washington College
Davie, Fla. | St. Thomas Aquinas
Gittelman tallied a game-best three caused turnovers and added four ground balls in the Shoremen's 13-4 win at McDaniel on Saturday afternoon. He helped the Shoremen defense keep the Green Terror off the scoreboard for 42:01, spanning from late in the first quarter to early in the fourth. During that time, Washington scored nine unanswered goals. Gittelman also added an assist on the Shoremen's first goal of the second quarter in transition.

WOMEN'S LACROSSE
 
Offensive Player of the Week
Kerry McKeever, Sr., A, Gettysburg
Stony Brook, N.Y. | Ward Melville
McKeever set a personal best with seven goals and tied her career high with eight points in a 17-3 win over Muhlenberg. The senior attacker scored the first goal just eight seconds into the contest and had a hand in each of the Bullets' first four tallies. She also scooped up four draw controls as Gettysburg dominated the draw circle 18-4.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Sydney Wingate, So., GK, Washington College
Pasadena, Md. | Northeast
Wingate made eight saves en route to posting her first career shutout in the Shorewomen's 17-0 win at McDaniel on Saturday. The sophomore made four saves in each half and her final save with 2:29 remaining in the game preserved the program's seventh all-time clean sheet and first since 2017. She also notched a career-best four ground balls.

MEN'S TENNIS

Player of the Week
Jason Grant, Sr., Muhlenberg
Livingston, N.J. | Livingston
Grant won at both doubles and singles to help Muhlenberg to a 6-3 win at Gettysburg and a 1-0 start in the CC for the first time since 2013. At No. 1 doubles, he teamed with Benedict Kohler for a hard-fought 8-6 win. At No. 3 singles, Grant cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 triumph. 

WOMEN'S TENNIS

Player of the Week
Caitlin Vinsonhaler, Fr., Ursinus
Short Hills, N.J. | Millburn
Vinsonhaler won at No. 3 doubles and No. 3 singles in her collegiate debut to help the Bears upset Franklin & Marshall, 6-3, on Saturday. It was the Bears' first win over the Diplomats since 2011. Vinsonhaler teamed with Madisen Harvey for a convincing 8-1 win in doubles, then prevailed in a 7-6 (1), 7-6 (4) nail-biter in singles to put the Bears up 4-2.
