Centennial Conference Athletes of the Week - Jan. 16-22

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Winter sports are heating up as we approach the end of January, with last week featuring another full slate of weekly awards across all seven Centennial Conference winter sports.

Kayla Robinson of Haverford women's basketball collected her second weekly award of the season to lead this week's group of honorees. Other weekly winners included Tom Quarry of Johns Hopkins men's basketball, Nick Cox of Gettysburg men's swimming, Ashley Wong of Swarthmore women's swimming, Gary Nagle of Ursinus wrestling, Ryan Kredell of Haverford men's indoor track & field, Isaiah Battle of Ursinus men's indoor track & field, Rose Teszler of Swarthmore women's indoor track & field and Isabelle Deal of Ursinus women's indoor track & field.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

Athlete of the Week
Tom Quarry, Gr., F, Johns Hopkins
Philadelphia, Pa. | Father Judge
Quarry led Johns Hopkins to a pair of big conference wins with averages of 24 points, 5.0 three-pointers, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.0 steal per game. He scored 26 points, with six three-pointers, to go with three boards, two assists, two steals and a block in JHU's win over Franklin & Marshall Wednesday night. Quarry followed that with 22 points and six rebounds in the win at Muhlenberg as the Blue Jays avenged an earlier loss to the Mules. He shot 47.6% from three (10-for-21) and 46.7% from the floor on the week. 

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Athlete of the Week
Kayla Robinson, Sr., F, Haverford
Bristol, Conn. | The Taft School
Robinson notched double-doubles in both of Haverford wins with averages of 19.0 points, 14.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 steal per game on 58.6% shooting as the Fords became the first team in the Centennial Conference to reach 10 conference victories this season. Robinson played 76 of 80 total possible minutes in that 2-0 week, logging a 20-point, 13 rebound effort against Muhlenberg before going on the road to impress with 18 points and 16 boards against the Diplomats. Robinson is third in the nation in double-doubles with 14, and leads the Centennial Conference in rebounds per game, total rebounds, offensive rebounds, defensive rebounds, and steals while also ranking fourth in points and eighth in points per game.

MEN'S SWIMMING

Athlete of the Week
Nick Cox, Sr., Gettysburg
Purcellville, Va. | Ponte Vedra
Cox led the Bullets to a 136-126 win at Mary Washington on Saturday with three victories. He touched first in the 100 backstroke, clocking in at 52.79 seconds and also led a top-three sweep in the 200 backstroke, pacing the trio to the wall in a time of 1:56.26. He rounded out the day with a first-place showing in the 200 IM (1:58.43). 

WOMEN'S SWIMMING
 
Athlete of the Week
Ashley Wong, Jr., Swarthmore
Bellevue, Wash. | Newport
Wong earned three first place finishes as No. 15 Swarthmore remained perfect on the season with a win over Dickinson. Wong took first place in the 100 backstroke (59.81) and the 100 butterfly (58.92). The junior was also a member of the first place 200 medley relay with a time of 27.48 in the 50 backstroke.

WRESTLING
 
Athlete of the Week
Gary Nagle, Sr., 184, Ursinus
Cape May Court House, N.J. | Middle Twp.
Nagle went 2-0 against regionally-ranked wrestlers to lead the Bears to a 2-0 start in conference action. On Friday, he sealed the dual for Ursinus by defeating Johns Hopkins' Joe Paul 2-1, who was last year's Centennial Conference champion at 174 and is ranked third in the Mideast Region. On Saturday, Nagle sealed the dual for Ursinus again with an 8-7 decision over McDaniel's Michael Bromley (Ranked fifth at 184 in Mideast region) in route to the 26-16 victory.

MEN'S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD
 
Track Athlete of the Week
Ryan Kredell, Sr., Haverford
Geneva, Ill. | Geneva
Kredell raced to the second-fastest 3,000-meter time in Centennial Conference history (8:11.41) on Saturday at the Villanova Invitational, finishing fourth behind only Division I runners from Villanova and La Salle. The time ranks atop the CC by more than 13 seconds and is third in the nation this indoor season. Kredell's time is also the third-fastest in Haverford program history and ranks behind only former Ford standout Charlie Marquardt's time of 8:06.56 on the CC all-time list.
 
Field Athlete of the Week
Isaiah Battle, Sr., Ursinus
Long Branch, N.J. | Long Branch
Battle won a pair of throwing events at the Collegeville Classic on Saturday. He won the weight throw with a mark of 17.24 meters before taking the shot put at 14.12 meters. Battle owns the top weight throw in the Centennial this indoor season and his mark from Saturday ranks among the top 25 nationally. His shot put mark is the third-best throw in the conference. 
 

WOMEN'S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD
 
Track Athlete of the Week
Rose Teszler, Sr., Swarthmore
Newton, Mass. | Newton North
Teszler posted the fourth-fastest time in the nation in the 800 meters at the Villanova Invitational on Saturday. The senior set a new personal record in the event with a time of 2:14.17, which ranks sixth all-time in Centennial indoor history. 
 
Field Athlete of the Week
Isabelle Deal, Sr., Ursinus
Turnersville, N.J. | Washington Twp. 
Deal won the shot put with a school-record mark of 12.65 meters while finishing fourth in the weight throw with a mark of 13.12 meters at the Collegeville Classic. Her throw in the shot put was the second best throw in the Centennial this indoor season and ranks 30th nationally, while her weight throw was the fourth best in the conference.
