Altieri Wins Swat-Neumann Invite

The 2016-17 season opened on Sunday afternoon for Swarthmore College Men's Golf. The Garnet finished in third in the Swarthmore/Neumann Invitational at Rock Manor Golf Club with a 306. Swarthmore fielded two teams in the event, with Swarthmore's Maroon squad carding a 342.

Sophomore Dan Altieri shot an even par, 71, to take first place after a match of cards. Altieri birdied holes two, six and 18 and only had a bogey on three holes. Vamsi Damerla and Drew Langan each shot 78s to tie for 13th overall. Damerla had a trio of birdies on par-3 holes and Langan added a pair of birdies. Nick DiMaio posted Swarthmore White's fourth score with a 79.

The Garnet finished behind only Cabrini (298, +14) and Muhlenberg (300, +16).


The Muhlenberg men's golf team came in second out of nine teams at the Swarthmore/Neumann Invitational at Rock Manor Golf Club in Wilmington, Del.

The Mules finished with a team score of 300, two strokes behind Cabrini. They have finished in the top two in two of three tournaments this fall and 11 of 18 dating back to the start of last year.

Sophomore Ben Lieberman and junior Evan Overcash tied for third, each shooting a 3-over-par 74. Lieberman (pictured above) shot two birdies while Overcash shot four.

Sophomore Ian Simon recorded birdies on consecutive par-4 holes on the front nine and ended with a 75. Freshman Sam Gersten carded a 77 to tie for 10th. 


The Ursinus College men's golf team kicked off the 2016-17 season with a solid performance at the Swarthmore/Neumann Invitational, placing fifth in a nine-team field with a cumulative card of 326.

Junior Lamar Saxon fired a 4-over 75 to lead the way for the Bears, who finished 28 strokes behind Cabrini. The Cavaliers took the team title with a 298, edging Muhlenberg (300) by just two shots. Swarthmore's White squad was third with a 306, followed by Eastern (317), Ursinus (326), Philadelphia University (333), University of the Sciences (337), Swarthmore Maroon (342), and Neumann (362).

Saxon tied for 7th overall in a field of 47 entrants at Rock Manor Golf Club. The Bears' top swinger wound up just three shots behind Swarthmore's Dan Altieri, who won a tiebreaker with Cabrini's Daviod Gall for the individual trophy via a match of cards. 

Freshman Ryan Hodgdon impressed in his first collegiate round, firing a 79 to tie for 16th overall. Junior Ryan Crawford shot an 83, while senior Anthony Barbine and freshman Brian Barrett carded matching 89s. 

Saxon had four birdies on the afternoon, two of them coming in the final three holes. Hodgdon birdied the par-3 second hole, and Crawford posted a 3 on the par-4 7th. Barrett's first career birdie came on the par-4 13th.
