DeSimone, Flood Named Players of Week

DeSimone, Flood Named Players of Week

Peter DeSimone, Ursinus; Ben Flood, Washington College

After an electrifying introduction to Centennial Conference play, Ursinus College freshman Peter DeSimone was honored as the Centennial Conference Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week.

DeSimone made his CC debut a memorable one, going off for career highs of four goals and four assists in Saturday's 18-8 victory over Swarthmore. His eight points matched sophomore Gerard Brown – who had a three-goal, five-assist outburst in the season opener – for the most by a Bear in a single game since 2007.

The rookie did almost all of his damage in the first half as Ursinus (6-1, 1-0) won its fourth straight game and remained unbeaten at home. He assisted on strikes by sophomore Ian Desenberg and junior Matthew Cioeta in the first quarter and on one by senior Tucker Noel in the second, tallying three goals of his own in the second stanza as the Bears took an 11-4 advantage into halftime. DeSimone registered three goals and three assists during a 9-1 spurt that answered Swarthmore's opening salvo.

In the second half, DeSimone facilitated junior Kerry Kynett's first goal of the season.

After a stretch of three consecutive games with at least three points, DeSimone ranks fifth in the conference in assists (9) and is tied for 10th in points (20).

Washington College sophomore goalie Ben Flood (Atlanta, Ga./The Lovett School) has been named the Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week for men's lacrosse for the week ending March 27th. Flood posted a .783 save percentage and a 2.76 goals-against average in a 2-0 week for the Shoremen.

In a 9-2 win at Lebanon Valley Wednesday, Flood matched his career high with 11 saves and allowed just two goals in 54:04 of playing time. Three days later, he made seven saves and allowed just three goals in 53:50 as the Shoremen won their Centennial Conference opener at McDaniel, 13-6.

Flood is the first Washington College men's lacrosse goalie to be named the conference's Defensive Player of the Week since Ted DiSalvo '14 earned the honor on March 31st, 2014.
