Kelly Transitions to New Campus Role

Former Bullet steps down as head men’s soccer coach

Brett Kelly '03 will serve a dual role with Admissions and Financial Aid.
GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Gettysburg College head men's soccer coach Brett Kelly '03 will step away from the pitch to assume a new role on campus in the offices of Admissions and Financial Aid, it was recently announced by Director of Athletics David Wright.

Kelly has spent the better part of the last 16 years dedicated to the Bullets men's soccer program. He was a four-year letterwinner from 1998-2001 before serving two years as an assistant coach. After a brief stint at East Carolina University, Kelly returned to his alma mater in 2006 as an assistant coach. He was promoted to associate coach in 2010 before taking on head coaching duties in 2011.

Additionally, Kelly has worked with the men's and women's tennis teams since returning to his alma mater, including serving as co-head coach from 2008-10.

"I want to personally thank Brett for his unwavering dedication to his alma mater, the entire athletic department and more specifically the men's soccer team and both tennis programs," said Wright, who served as Kelly's head coach from 1998-2001. "Brett has been a committed Bullet since his time as an undergraduate student. He will be greatly missed here in this department, but it will be fantastic to watch him flourish and grow in this new endeavor."

As a defender, Kelly helped the Bullets to a 63-15-3 record, win two Centennial Conference championships, win an ECAC Division III South championship, and compete in the NCAA Division III Tournament three times. He served as team captain in 2001.

In 10 seasons as a member of the coaching staff, Kelly helped the team accrue a record of 84-78-19 and make six trips to the conference playoffs.

"I want to thank Dave Wright for the opportunity to coach my alma mater over the past three seasons," said Kelly, who will remain involved with the athletics program as a member of the Orange and Blue Advisory Council. "I also want to thank Coach Wright, Susan Fumagalli and the entire athletics department staff for the support and camaraderie during my time here."

Kelly's familiarity with the College will be a helpful factor in his new dual position on campus. He will serve as a counselor in both Admissions and Financial Aid, helping guide prospective students and their families through the processes of becoming a college student.

A national search for Kelly's replacement will begin immediately. Gettysburg's men's soccer program has been one of the top programs in the Centennial Conference, claiming three conference titles and appearing in the national tournament seven times.
