CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Washington College head men's and women's tennis coach Oliver Reynolds announced his resignation today after accepting the head men's coaching position at his alma mater, Division I Samford University. Current assistant coach Michael Herman will serve as acting head coach.
"We want to thank Oliver for all that he's done for our tennis program and our department the last four plus years," stated Washington College Director of Athletics Thad Moore. "The program is in a much better place now than when he arrived. We wish him nothing but the best of luck in his next endeavor."
Reynolds was named head men's and women's tennis coach at Washington College in July 2017. In his first season, he guided both teams to the Centennial Conference Tournament. The women's team finished 13-6 that season and reached the conference semifinals.
Prior to his time in Chestertown, Reynolds spent three seasons on the coaching staff at The College of Charleston and formerly served as the interim head men's tennis coach at The Citadel.
Reynolds played collegiate tennis for four seasons at Samford and served as a team captain as a senior. The Bulldogs won the Ohio Valley Conference Championship during Reynolds's freshman campaign and the Southern Conference Championship his senior year, advancing to the NCAA Division I Tournament both seasons. He played No. 1 doubles and No. 4 singles during his senior season and finished his collegiate career with a 53-31 singles record and a 41-31 doubles mark.
Reynolds earned a B.S. in Business Administration - Finance from Samford in 2011.
Washington College will launch a national search to replace Reynolds.
