STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Less than a week after setting a new Centennial Conference record in the 3,000 meters, Charlie Marquardt once again landed in the record book.

Marquardt completed the mile run in a time of 4:02.16 as the representative of the Haverford College men's indoor track & field team at the FastTrack National Invite at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Friday. He finished in fifth place overall and first among Division III participants. 

Not only will Marquardt's time will go down as the fifth-fastest in NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field history, he now holds the second-fastest mark in school history. Marquardt bested his personal record of 4:04.76, which was set last year at the Valentine Invitational, and Kevin Foley's then-record 4:03.30 at the Mason-Dixon Games in 1983 to move into second place among all Haverford runners.

The Haverford senior was attempting to complete the mile in under four minutes, which has never been done in Division III indoor compeition. The school record will remain at 4:00.96, set by Karl Paranya at the Commonwealth Invitational on Jan. 25, 1997. Paranya's time stood as the Division III record until Bowdoin College's Coby Horowitz finished with a time of 4:00.41 in 2014. Paranya is also the only Division III runner in history to run a sub-four minute mile, which he did in outdoor competition in May 1997.

Marquardt's best marks currently rank third in program history in the 3,000 meter, third in the 1,500 meter, and fifth in the 5,000 meter (outdoor).
