BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The No. 16 Haverford College men's cross country team participated in the Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University on Friday afternoon. Senior Charlie Marquardt won his fifth career cross country individual title, crossing the finish line with a time of 24:56.

Marquardt has won four of the last six races he's ran in. In the event that had 354 finishers, he won by five seconds over Kieran Sutton of Shippensburg. Haverford finished third among 39 teams in the Brown Race with 94 points. Shippensburg University took home the team title with four finishers in the top 20.  

Junior Jimmy Gorman ran to a 10th place finish in the Brown Race, setting a personal record (25:09). Junior Michael Brier also recorded his best time in the 8K, posting a 25:14, placing 18th. Senior Nicholas Gandolfo-Lucia was the third Ford to finish (25th) with a career-best time of 25:19. Senior Sam Fujimori also recorded points for Haverford, running to the 40th position (25:28). Freshman Graham Peet (25:32) and sophomore Henry Woods (25:48) were the Fords' sixth and seventh finishers. Freshman Ian Steller also ran in the race with a time of 26:17.


Franklin & Marshall used a strong team effort to claim fifth in the men's college white race Friday at the Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University.

The meet, divided into gold, brown, and white divisions based off of times submitted by each team beforehand, featured numerous teams from Divisions I, II, and III.

The Diplomat top seven posted an average time of 27:34 on the day, putting five runners into the 29th-55th positions.

Freshman Patrick Manion was the first across the line for the F&M, finishing 29th with a time of 27:02.

Manion was closely followed by fellow freshman Bryce Williams, finishing in 34th with a time of 27:08.

Senior James Hamilton was 36th at 27:10, J.T. Paganelli finished in 42nd with a time of 27:15, and Spencer Lyman took 55th at 27:25.  


Senior Jackson Davis (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) placed sixth out of 308 runners to lead the Gettysburg College men's cross country team to a strong third-place finish among 39 teams in the "White" race of the Paul Short Run, hosted by Lehigh University, on Friday.
 
The Bullets scored 154 points and placed just nine points behind race champion University of Mary Washington and one point behind runner-up Misericordia University. Gettysburg beat out both of its Centennial Conference opponents, as Franklin & Marshall College took fifth (196) while Muhlenberg College came in ninth (252).
 
In wet and muddy conditions, Davis cruised the 8,000-meter course in 25:58, becoming the first Bullet to break 26 minutes since Brendan Repack '12 at the same race four years ago.
 
Junior Ben Taber (Durham, Conn./Coginchaug Regional) and senior Nathan Cody (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) were not far back. Taber placed 13th in 26:25 while Cody came in 22nd in 27:24.
 
Completing the team score were junior Nathan Wojick (Milford, N.J./Delaware Valley Regional), who took 54th in 27:24, and senior Paul Eppler (Bethlehem, Pa./Northampton), who placed 59th in 27:29.


The Johns Hopkins men's cross country team finished 20th in the top race at the Paul Short Run, hosted by Lehigh University on Friday. Hopkins was led by Louis Levine, who crossed the finish line in 25:16 to help JHU finish second among Division III squads at the event.

"Our men ran very tough, it was a big step in the right direction for the rest of the season," said Head Coach Bobby Van Allen. "We still have to work on packing up better and feeding off one another to close the one through five spread."

Levine finished 75th of 278 participants in the 8,000m event. Ryan Schwartz crossed the finish line 14 seconds after Levine to also place within the top 100 runners. Following Schwartz for the Blue Jays was Ollie Hickson (25.33) and Akshay Alaghatta (25:52), while Billy Scola rounded out the Hopkins' top five in 26:04.


Rainy and windy conditions did not prevent the Muhlenberg cross country teams from enjoying success at Lehigh's Paul Short Run.

The men, missing one of their top runners, came in ninth out of 39 teams to place in the top 10 for the third year in a row. Among the teams they beat was regionally ranked Eastern Mennonite.

Sophomore Jaryd Flank led for much of the race before finishing second to a Division II all-region runner from Southern Connecticut State. He matched the best finish ever by a Muhlenberg runner at Paul Short, previously achieved by David Chorney (2007) and Lex Mercado (2006). It was the second consecutive year in the top 10 for Flank, who placed eighth last fall.

Corey Mullins was the top freshman finisher in the race, crossing the finish line in seventh place to give the Mules two top-10 finishers for the first time since 2007. Sophomore Anthony Calantoni was 23rd with a time of 26:46 - more than two-and-a-half minutes faster than he ran at the same meet last year.


Swarthmore Men's Cross Country finished with an average time of 26:27 to come in 29th place in the Paul Short Run at Lehigh University on a cool, rainy Friday afternoon. The Paul Short Brown race featured 39 teams from all three NCAA Divisions and had 354 finishers.

Swarthmore senior Paul Green led the Garnet with a 25:58 time to finish in 105th place. The Garnet's next four scorers all finished in under 27 minutes. Corey Branchcompleted the muddy course in 26:12, John Gagnon came in at 26:26, Mayank Agrawal crossed in 26:43 and Mike McConville posted the Garnet's fifth score with a time of 26:53. Branch, Agrawal and Gagnon all trimmed significant time off their pace on this course compared to last year's times. Compared to 2014, Gagnon was 1:23 faster, Agrawal ran 1:21 faster and Branch was 56 seconds quicker.

William Colgan and Will Sullivan finished within seconds of each other at 27:02 and 27:07.
