Samantha Garritano of the Ursinus College softball team has been named the Centennial Conference Player of the Week, it was announced Monday.
Garritano batted .455 (10-for-22) in a 4-2 week for the Bears, hitting her first career home run and driving in eight runs. The sophomore had a hit in all six games, including four multi-hit performances, and scored four runs.
Garritano finished 4-for-7 with a home run and three runs scored in Monday's doubleheader split with Immaculata, then had two RBI in both ends of a CC sweep at Muhlenberg the following day. She was 2-for-5 with a double in the opener of Saturday's twin bill with Gettysburg, then came up with the go-ahead two-run single on the way to a three-RBI effort as the Bears secured a split with a 4-2 victory in the nightcap.
A CC weekly honoree for the first time in her career, Garritano is second on the team with a .333 batting average. She tops the Bears in hits (29), runs (17), triples, 3), and RBI (19).
Junior pitcher Taylor Harcum (Hebron, Md./Mardela) has been named the Centennial Conference Pitcher of the Week for softball for the week of April 10-16. This is the third time this season and in her career that Harcum has won the Centennial's weekly award as she won the award previously this season on March 6 and April 3.
Harcum was 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA on the week. The junior struck out a career-high nine batters in a five-inning complete-game 8-0 win vs. Swarthmore. Harcum also went the distance in a 7-1 win vs. Dickinson, scattering five hits and did not permit an earned run. For the week, she posted a 0.75 WHIP over 12 innings with 11 strikeouts as she did not walk a batter.
