Top-seeded Haverford and second-seeded Dickinson defended their home field advantages in the opening round of the 2019 Centennial Conference Softball Tournament on Tuesday, setting up a winner's bracket showdown between the top two seeds on Friday.
In Haverford, Pa., the host Fords defeated fourth-seeded Swarthmore 7-2. Haverford got a pair of three-run home runs from both Marybeth Stone and Emma Souter to account for the majority of the team's offense in the opening game of the tournament.
In Carlisle, Pa., Dickinson downed third-seeded Ursinus 9-1 in six innings. Senior Madison Milaszewski went the distance in the circle, improving to 13-5 on the season. She held the Bears to just five hits, one run, one walk while recording five strikeouts to raise her career mark to 422. Maggie McConney went 3-for-3 on the day, driving in two runs and scoring twice as well. Hannah Seburn finished 2-for-3 on the day, driving in three runs
Ursinus and Swarthmore will open up Friday's action with an elimination game at Haverford at 2 p.m.
