CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Former Shorewomen student-athlete and assistant coach Sally Snover '12 was named the eighth head coach of the Washington College softball program, it was announced today by Director of Athletics Thad Moore.

"We are excited to welcome Sally back to Washington College," stated Moore. "Sally's passion and commitment to Washington College and our softball team was unmatched throughout the entire interview process. Her familiarity with the college and Centennial Conference will serve her well and we are looking forward to seeing the heights she will take our program."

"I would like to thank Director of Athletics Thad Moore and the entire search committee for this opportunity," Snover said.  "Washington College is such a special place and I could not be more honored and excited to return to my alma mater.  I am eager to continue to build on the strong foundation of success that exists within the softball program and athletic department."

Snover just completed her fourth season as the lead assistant coach and hitting instructor at Oberlin College.

In her first season in 2017, the Oberlin offense rewrote the record book, setting then team-highs for batting average (.306), runs (183), hits (339) walks (81) and hit by pitches (26).

In 2019 the Yeowomen hitters set new school records in batting average (.330) and runs (184) while mentoring the North Coast Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Year and NCAC First-Team selection Cat Moruzzi. The freshman turned in a historical season by finishing second in the conference in batting average at .444 while producing 55 hits to set single-season school records in each category.

For three seasons, Snover also mentored Emma Downing '19 who departed the program as the all-time leader in batting average (.374) and runs (115). She is second in school history in home runs (13) and total hits (158) while ranking fifth all-time in NCAA Division III history with 54 hit-by-pitches.

After graduating in 2012 with a B.A. in psychology, Snover remained in Chestertown to serve as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the Shorewomen. Snover helped guide Washington College to the Centennial Conference Tournament three out of four years and the first softball conference championship in school history in 2013, which earned the school its first-ever NCAA Tournament berth. In her final year on staff, Snover helped mentor the Shorewomen to a regular season title.

As a player, Snover served as team captain all four years for the Shorewomen, earning All-Centennial Conference honors as a sophomore. A mainstay at third base, she started all 152 games over her four-year career. She finished her playing career with 121 hits, 72 RBI, 823 runs and 48 walks, leaving as one of the most productive players in the history of the program. She still owns the single season record for walks with 26 in 2011 and ranks in the top ten in four career categories including fifth in career walks and seventh in career at-bats (429).

Snover was named to the Centennial Conference Sportsmanship Team twice as both a junior and senior and was a Centennial Conference academic honor roll selection three times.
