McDaniel's Nichols Named Player of the Week

Nichols led the Green Terror to a 3-0 week that included a 65-59 come-from-behind victory at No. 9 Muhlenberg on Tuesday. She averaged 23.0 points per game on the week, reaching the 20-point mark in all three games. She made 12 3-pointers to go with 24 rebounds, five assists, and 11 steals. She also had a pair of 20-point, 10-rebound performances to give her four career double-doubles.


Notebook:

Swarthmore senior G Jessica Jowdy (Newtown, Conn.) averaged 17.7 points and eight rebounds in three games last week for the Garnet. Jowdy scored a career-high 28 points on 12-of-18 shooting in a narrow 63-69 loss to McDaniel on Saturday, January 16th.

Franklin & Marshall freshman G Haley Pilone (Milford, N.J.) scored at least 15 points in all three of F&M's contests, including a 22-point effort on Thursday against Johns Hopkins. On Saturday, the freshman guard recorded a career-high five assists in addition to 15 points in a 59-42 Diplomat victory. Pilone tallied 11 three-point buckets on the week, and climbed into the top 10 in the conference for points per game after averaging 18.0 over three games.

Ursinus senior F Jessica Porada (Morristown, N.J.) averaged 15.7 points and 8.0 rebounds for the Bears this week. She moved into fifth on the program's all-time scoring list with 14 points in Saturday's loss at Johns Hopkins.

Gettysburg senior F Jessica Porter (Narberth, Pa.) led the Bullets to three victories and scored her 1,000th career point last week. The senior forward averaged 17.3 points and 9.3 rebounds per game while shooting 42.9 percent from the floor. She posted 21 points and 10 rebounds in wins over both Washington College and Ursinus, tallying her 1,000th career point in the latter game. Porter closed the week with 10 points and eight boards in limited action against Bryn Mawr.

Dickinson junior G Helen Roberts (Oakton, Va.) had another big week, leading the Red Devils to a 3-0 week. Roberts averaged 18 points per game and 4.7 rebounds. She knocked down four three-pointers and went 11-of-15 from the free throw line (73%) while dishing out four assists, blocking two shots, and recording a steal. She scored 18 points on Tuesday to hand Ursinus its first conference loss of the season.

Haverford sophomore F Samantha Wetzel (Sickerville, N.J.) dropped seven points, snagged nine rebounds, and blocked two shots in the Fords' 50-32 win over Franklin & Marshall. Despite the loss to McDaniel, the sophomore secured 15 points, seven rebounds and swatted six shots, which tied her career high. Wetzel continued her stellar play with 13 points, four rebounds, and five blocks against Dickinson on Saturday.

Johns Hopkins senior F Beatriz Williams (Armonk, N.Y.) led Hopkins to a 3-0 week, averaging 13.7 ppg and 8.7 rpg. The senior helped JHU even its CC record at 4-4 after starting the year 1-4. Williams recorded her second double-double of the season - 17 points, 11 rebounds - in a 64-50 victory over Ursinus Saturday afternoon as the Blue Jays avenged an early-season loss to the Bears. She currently leads Hopkins in points per game, rebounds per game, and minutes played.

Brown recorded a pair of double-doubles as F&M defeated Hood and Swarthmore to go 2-0 on the week. On Monday against Hood, Brown scored 14 points and pulled in 15 rebounds as the Dipolomats won 49-34. On Saturday, Brown recorded her fourth double-double of the season and second of the week, tying a game high with 21 points while collecting 12 rebounds, four steals, and three blocks.

Way played the best game of her young career Saturday to help lead Johns Hopkins to a 54-47 victory against a talented RIT squad which came into the contest with a 7-1 record and winners of four straight. The freshman guard led the Blue Jays with career highs in both points (14) and rebounds (8). Additionally, Way nailed four free throws and collected two tough rebounds in the final 30 seconds to clinch the win and help JHU snap a four-game losing skid.

Jenkintown, Pa. / Jenkintown

Dorshimer posted season highs for points (27), rebounds (7), and blocked shots (3) in Gettysburg's 72-62 triumph over Shenandoah. Dorshimer finished one three-pointer shy of the school record by going 6-of-10 from beyond the arc and she finished 9-of-17 (52.9 percent) from the field overall. Over her last four games, the first-year guard is averaging 21.3 points per game.

Morristown, N.J. / Morris Catholic

Porada averaged 20.7 points in a 3-0 CC week for the Bears, scoring at least 19 points in each contest. She led Ursinus to its first win over Johns Hopkins since 2011 with 24 points (including the go-ahead and winning baskets) and 14 rebounds, her 25th career double-double. She currently ranks second in the CC in scoring (17.4) and 6th in rebounding (8.3).

Christina Manning, Muhlenberg
Sophomore, Guard, 5-9
Newtown Square, Pa. / Cardinal O'Hara

Manning averaged 21.0 points and 5.5 rebounds while shooting 50 percent from the field as the Mules posted wins against 2015 CC playoff qualifiers Haverford and Gettysburg. Manning was 5-for-7 from three-point range en route to scoring a career-high 25 points in the Gettysburg game. Two of her threes came on consecutive possessions late in the fourth quarter and gave Muhlenberg a double-digit lead after the Bullets had cut it to five.

Berkeley Heights, N.J. / Governor Livingston Regional

Polimeni led the Bears to a 67-55 win in their Conference opener against Swarthmore. She scored a career-high 21 points, shooting 40.0 percent from the field and knocking down 8-of-11 free throws. Polimeni also dished out nine assists and grabbed eight rebounds in the win.

Narberth, Pa. / Lower Merion

Porter picked up MVP honors after averaging 18.5 points and 10 rebounds per game at the Frostburg State Tip-off Tournament. She posted eight points and seven rebounds and connected on the game-winning three-pointer with three seconds left as the Bullets took down 20th-ranked Geneseo State 50-47 in the opening game. In the title game, the senior forward topped her personal high with 29 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead Gettysburg past the host Bobcats 83-53.

Oley Valley, Pa. / Oley Valley

Vallely was named MVP of the Scotty Wood Tournament after averaging 15.0 points, 10.5 assists, 9.0 rebounds, and 4.5 steals to lead the Mules to the championship. She recorded her second straight triple-double with 14 points, 12 assists, and 11 rebounds in only 24 minutes against Hood, becoming the first women's basketball player in Centennial Conference history with more than one triple-double. Vallely, who shot 63.2 percent from the field in the two games, scored a career-high 16 points against SUNY Cortland in the championship game.

Vallely made her first career start a memorable one, recording the seventh triple-double in Centennial Conference history with 13 points, 10 rebounds, and a CC-record 15 assists in a 77-74 win at Moravian. Vallely scored or assisted on the Mules' last 12 field goals and had two points, two assists, and a steal in a game-ending 10-3 run.
