Gordon Earns NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship

Recent Muhlenberg graduate and wrestling captain Jake Gordon was awarded an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.

The NCAA annually awards 174 postgraduate scholarships of $7,500 each to student-athletes who excel academically and athletically and who are at least in their final year of intercollegiate athletics competition. Athletics and academic achievements, campus involvement, community service, volunteer activities and demonstrated leadership are evaluated.

Gordon earned one of 29 given to male athletes in all three divisions who participated in winter sports.

Gordon graduated magna cum laude with a business administration major and political science minor. A two-year captain of the wrestling team, he finished his career with 51 wins and set a school record with 10 career technical falls. He came in third at 174 at the 2016 Centennial Conference Championships and went 20-16 as a junior, placing fifth at Messiah. Gordon was off to a 9-6 start before his senior season was curtailed by injury.

Off the mat, Gordon was honored during Commencement weekend as one of two winners of the Alumni Association Future Alumni Leader Awards. He also received the 2017 Paul M. White '27 Business Award and the 2018 Muhlenberg Goodwill Prize. Gordon co-founder DressedGPS, an online platform that allows students to rent or sell outfits to other students, an experience that helped him secure a competitive fellowship through Taglit Excel last summer.

Gordon is a founding member of the College Admissions Mentorship Program, which guides William Allen High School students through the college application process, and served as philanthropy chair of Alpha Tau Omega. He will work as a consultant at the Lehigh Small Business Development Center this summer before pursuing a master of science in management at Lehigh University this fall.

Gordon is the 17th NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship recipient in Muhlenberg history, the second from the wrestling program.

He is the second Centennial Conference student to receive a Postgraduate Scholarship from the NCAA in 2017-18. Haverford cross country standout Henry Woods was a recipient in the fall. The pair brings the Centennial's total to 85 recipients since 1993-94.
