WRESTLER OF THE WEEK 12/11/17

Cavallo helped the Blue Jays knock off nationally-ranked NYU, 25-20, in the Grapple at the Garden. In the featured bout of the match, Cavallo, ranked 10th by d3wrestle.com, pinned Matt Noble in the second period. Noble is ranked sixth by the NWCA and eighth by d3wrestle.com - he was 7-0 with seven pins on the year before Cavallo caught him in a cradle for a key victory for the Blue Jays.

Co-WRESTLERS OF THE WEEK 12/4/17

Colin Kowalski, Jr, 165, Gettysburg College
Derwood, Md./Georgetown Prep

Kowalski was named Outstanding Wrestler after winning the 165-pound title at the Messiah Petrofes Invitational. The junior won all four of his matches during the two-day tournament, including a pair of wins over top-10 ranked foes on the final day. He pulled off two reversals and an escape to defeat No. 7 Jeff Hojnacki of Messiah 5-4 in the championship bout. Kowalski, who was the Petrofes champ at 157 last season, improved to 15-2 this season.

Brett Kaliner, Fr, 141, Stevens Institute of Technology
West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin

Brett was named Most Outstanding Wrestler at the New Standard Invitational. After earning a pair of victories via decision, one by major decision and one pinfall, Kaliner earned a hard-fought 7-4 decision win over Johnson & Wales Joe Ferinde, who came into the event as the second-ranked wrestler in the country at 141 pounds.

 

 

WRESTLER OF THE WEEK 11/20/17

Zach Wilhelm, Sr, 157, Stevens
Tuckerton, N.J. / Southern Regional

Wilhelm earned a major decision victory over Ferrum's Clifford Harrison in a dual match between the Ducks and the Panthers. Wilhelm then earned the championship at 157 pounds at the Star City Open, winning via technical fall in his first two matches of the day, and then winning a 10-3 decision in the championship bout. The victories moved Wilhelm to 10-0 on the year.

 

WRESTLER OF THE WEEK 11/13/17

Ben Maack, Fr, 184, Ursinus
Reading, Pa./Governor Mifflin

Maack won all five of his matches to capture the 184-pound title at the annual Fall Brawl on Saturday, his first collegiate crown. Maack posted three pins and two major decisions to improve to 7-2 on the season. 

 

WRESTLER OF THE WEEK 11/6/17

Cavallo won the 133-pound title at the season-opening Messiah Invitational. He won twice by technical fall and once by major to advance to the finals, then topped 10th-ranked Hunter Harris of Messiah, 10-8, in overtime in the title bout.
