LANCASTER, Pa. -- Johns Hopkins' Dominick Reyes repeated as Wrestler of the Year to highlight the 2022 All-Centennial Wrestling Team. Gettysburg's Luke Kowalski and Washington and Lee head coach Nathan Shearer collected the other major awards on the all-star squad.
Reyes, who secured the 165-pound title and the prestigious Chris Clifford Award at last Saturday's Centennial championship, becomes the first wrestler in conference history to win multiple Wrester of the Year awards since the award was instituted in 2012. He is one of two Blue Jays (Paul Bewak, 2013) to have won the conference's top honor. Reyes received the Chris Clifford Award, given to the senior wrestler with the most career points at CC championships, after compiling 51 career points, including a pair of 165 titles along with runner-up and third-place finishes at 157.
Kowalski was voted Rookie of the Year after a superb opening campaign that includes a 26-6 record and a third-place finish at 133 at the CC meet. He is the second Gettysburg wrestler to win the award since its inception in 2013, joining former Bullet standout Paul Triandafilou (2016) in the top rookie club.
Shearer, who led the Generals to the CC team title each of the last two seasons, was selected by his peers as CC Coach of the Year for the first time. W&L posted an 11-5 overall dual mark this season, including a 5-1 record in CC duals. The Generals captured four individual titles and four third-place finishes at the championship.
Six wrestlers were repeat All-Centennial performers. Reyes is the only three-time all-star among the group, while W&L's Ryan Luth (157) and Muhlenberg's Luca Colestock (197) joined Reyes as repeat champions at their respective weight classes.
W&L's Charlie Cunningham (141), Ursinus' Terry Adams (125) and Ursinus' Jason Carter (197) also earned all-star spots for the second time.
Champions at the Centennial meet are named first-team All-Centennial, while runners-up receive honorable mention. Ursinus leads the historical gold medal count with 59 champions since 1994. Muhlenberg is second (46), followed by McDaniel (44), Stevens (35), Merchant Marine (33), Johns Hopkins (28), Gettysburg (25), Washington and Lee (7), Swarthmore (2) and NYU (1).
