Hopkins' Kankanala Named Player of the Week

Anna Kankanala, Fr, Johns Hopkins

Kankanala went 3-0 in singles and 3-0 in doubles to help Johns Hopkins to a 3-0 record in Centennial Conference matches last week. She did not lose a set in singles, playing at first, second and third. She and classmate Amanda Soo Ping Chow won 8-5 at second doubles and Kankanala then won 6-3, 7-6 (5) at first singles in the win over Franklin & Marshall. She and Soo Ping Chow lost just one game in their win at third doubles versus Dickinson and Kankanala then lost just two games in her win at second singles. On Sunday, she and junior Kaitlin Pfisterer won 8-6 at second doubles and she again lost just two games in her win at third singles versus Ursinus.

Robyn Himelstein, So, Haverford

Himelstein helped the Fords go 3-0 last week with a combined 5-0 record between singles and doubles action. The sophomore dropped just three games in singles play during the week.

Megan FitzMaurice, Jr, Franklin & Marshall

Megan FitzMaurice led Franklin & Marshall to a 6-3 victory over Muhlenberg on Saturday to open Centennial Conference (CC) play. At the No. 4 spot in the singles lienup, FitzMaurice cruised to a 6-3, 6-0 win and teamed up with Dana Sleeper at No. 2 doubles for an 8-5 win.

April Weaver, So, Washington College

Went 2-0 in both #1 singles and #1 doubles during the week.  At Christopher Newport on March 13 she swept Jodi Noland (6-0, 6-0) at #1 singles and teamed with Marielle McIntyre to win 8-3 at #1 doubles over Jodi Noland/Katie Carlson.  She accounted for both of WC's wins over Christopher Newport.  At Virginia Wesleyan on March 10, she beat Mia Proctor (6-0, 6-1) at #1 singles and teamed again with McIntyre to win 8-2 at #1 doubles over Mia Proctor/Hannah Parent in WC's 8-1 win.

­­April Weaver, So, Washington College

Won at #1 singles and #1 doubles in Washington's 5-4 victory at St. Mary's (Md.) on Saturday.  At #1 singles, she won 6-2, 6-0 over Emily Stumpfig and at #1 doubles, she teamed up with Marielle McIntyre to win 8-1 over Stumpfig and Shannon Ramsey.

Amanda Austi, Fr, Johns Hopkins

Austi went 3-0 at first singles to help Johns Hopkins to its second straight ITA National Team Indoor Championship. She opened the tournament with a 6-4, 6-1 win as JHU defeated UC Santa Cruz, 9-0. In the semifinals, Austi came from behind to win 2-6, 7-6, 6-2 and give the Blue Jays a 3-2 lead before eventually winning 6-3 over Pomona-Pitzer. On Sunday, Austi once again came from behind to win and clinch the title for Hopkins over Carnegie Mellon. After dropping her first set 6-4, she lost just one game in the next two sets to win 4-6, 6-1, 6-0.
