LANCASTER, Pa. -- Johns Hopkins swept the major awards to headline the 2023 All-Centennial Women's Tennis Team. Mary Beth Hurley was named Player of the Year, Kamila Wong secured Rookie of the Year, and the JHU coaching staff received Coaching Staff of the Year accolades.
Hurley was named Player of the Year after going 11-4 overall and 5-0 in CC play at both the No. 1 and No. 2 singles spots and registering a 17-2 overall and 5-0 CC doubles mark, primarly at No. 2. Hurley's honor marks the fifth consecutive year that a Hopkins player earned the CC's top honor, and she becomes the sixth JHU player to receive that award.
Wong was tabbed Rookie of the Year, becoming the fifth Blue Jays to collect the honor in its 10-year history. Playing mostly at No. 3 singles and No. 1 doubles, Wong boasts a 16-4 overall and 4-1 CC singles record and a 12-9 overall and 5-0 CC doubles record.
In the inaugural year of the Coaching Staff of the Year award, JHU head coach Dan Pollock and assistant coach Alvin Modin were selected by their peers as the top staff in the conference. Pollock and Modin have guided the Blue Jays to a 19-3 overall record, unblemished 9-0 mark during the CC regular season, their 16th straight CC title and another trip to the upcoming NCAA Tournament.
This year's All-CC squad is full of multi-time honorees, with 11 players receiving all-star recognition for at least the second time in their careers. JHU's Anjali Devireddy, a two-time CC Player of the Year, Franklin & Marshall's Cassidy Laundau and Dickinson's Martine Fierro each secured All-Centennial honors for the third time. Other repeat honorees include JHU's Emily Javedan and Christina Huynh, Swarthmore's Nathalie Williams and Crystal Xu, Haverford's Ellie Esterowitz, Abbey Russano and Mimi Lavin, and F&M's Jenna Harrison.
Hopkins landed a conference-best eight players on the All-CC squad, followed by Swarthmore (5), Haverford (4), Franklin & Marshall (3), Bryn Mawr (2), Gettysburg (2), and Dickinson (1).
