Gettysburg's McCoubrie Named Field Athlete of the Week

McCoubrie won the triple jump at the Susquehanna Open on Saturday. McCoubrie cleared 36 feet, 8.25 inches to top the field of 19 by two inches. She also placed third in the long jump with an indoor personal best 17 feet, 9 inches.



Notebook:

Bryn Mawr freshman Julie Gonzales broke the school record in the pole vault over the weekend at the Keogh Classic at Haverford. The freshman took second place in the event with a high of 2.95 meters to re-set the record she had already claimed earlier this season.

Haverford sophomore Claire Sargent won the shot put at the Keogh Invitational on Saturday. Sargent's best throw over the weekend (11.85 meters) beat the rest of the field of 11 entrants by over three feet. Sargent is ranked first in the conference in this event and has won four of the past five competitions that she has entered.

Franklin & Marshall sophomore Alyssa Ward claimed two golds, a silver, and a bronze to lead the Diplomats at the Keogh Invitational hosted by Haverford on Saturday. Ward took first in the high jump with a height of 4'-11.75" and grabbed another gold in the long jump with a distance of 16'-7.25". She went on to team up with Olivia Bendit, Kaitlin Muccio, and Aleksandra Kiszka for a second place finish out of eight teams in the 4x200 relay. Ward finished off the day with third place finish in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.92.

Swisher placed second in the pole vault at the Monmouth University Collegiate Open on Saturday. Swisher had a height of 11'-9.75" and triggered a tiebreak procedure where she came up short.

Taking on Division I and II competition at the Bucknell Tune-Up, McCoubrie placed third in a field of 10 in the triple jump (35-6), and fifth among 20 competitors in the long jump (17-0).

Swisher picked up her third gold of the indoor season at the DeSchriver Invitational hosted by East Stroudsburg. Swisher turned in a first-place finish and reset a meet record in the pole vault with height of 12'-1.50".

McCoubrie placed among the top-five in two events at the John Covert Classic, hosted by Lehigh University. She was second in a field of 14 and the top Division III finisher in the triple jump, gliding 36’-1 ¼”. She also took fifth among 25 competitors in the long jump (17’-2”).

Sargent won the shot put event at the Collegeville Classic on Friday with a toss of 12.05 meters (39'6.5"). Her best toss, which she achieved on both her third and fourth throws of the meet, was just eight-hundredths of a meter from her personal best. Sargent has placed first or second in the shot put during each of the first four meets of the indoor season.

Swisher picked up her second gold of the indoor season with a first-place finish in the pole vault at 12'-3.50" at Kutztown Collegiate Invitational Friday evening at Kutztown University.

Ferry broke the Haverford College indoor record in the pole vault as she cleared 10'4" (3.15 meters) on Thursday evening in the Haverford/Widener Holiday Dual. Ferry tied the previous school mark held by Sarah Burke '06 and Melissa Nylander '08 when she cleared 10 feet on her first attempt. She broke the school record with her third and final attempt at 10 feet, four inches. She won the event by 45-hundredths of a meter (nearly 18 inches).

Olson wasted little time making a mark this season, breaking her own school record in the pole vault in her first competition of the year. The junior cleared a height of 3.66 meters to win the event at the Ursinus Bow-Tie Classic.
