Gettysburg's Cavanaugh Named Track Athlete of the Week

Cavanaugh lowered her school record in the 60-meter hurdles on the way to a first-place finish at the Susquehanna Open on Saturday. Cavanaugh shaved six-hundredths of a second off her own program record by clearing the course in 8.82 and besting the field of 36. She also helped the 4x200-meter relay take second in a time of 1:51.04.

Bryn Mawr senior Hannah Hastings earned the win in the 3000 meter run at the Keogh Classic at Haverford, coming in first with a time of 10:35.46. She beat out her nearest competitor by over ten seconds in the race to claim the victory.

Franklin & Marshall freshman Katie Muccio finished with a gold, silver, and bronze at the Keogh Invitational. She was first out of 18 runners in the 400-meters with a time of 1:02.31 and ran 28.04 in the 200-meter and finished third out of 27 participants. She teamed up with Olivia Bendit, Alyssa Ward, and Aleksandra Kiszka for a second place finish out of eight teams in the 4x200 relay.

Dickinson senior Rebecca Race ran to a win in the mile at the Susquehanna Open on Saturday afternoon. The senior posted a top 10 time in the conference this season, crossing the line in 5:15.82.

Haverford sophomore Katie Sullivan ran a personal-best mile in a time of 5:05.67 to win that event at the Keogh Invitational on Saturday. Sullivan's time ranks her fifth in school history for the event and 36th in the NCAA this season. Her time is the third fastest in the conference this season. She beat out a field of 25 entrants for the individual title.

Smith recorded a new personal-best in the 3,000m run at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational, hosted by Boston University. The sophomore crossed the finish line in 9:49.27, which is the top mark for any Centennial runner this season and the third best of any Division III runner this year.

Cavanaugh broke her own school record in the 55-hurdles at the Dickinson DuCharme Invitational while finishing among the top-three in two other events. With a time of 8.30 in prelims of the hurdles, she took eight-tenths of a second off her previous school record before placing eighth in the final. She also led off for the winning 4x200-meter relay team (1:51.44), and took third in the 55-dash with a career-best time of 7.47 seconds. Cavanaugh helped the Bullets finish third among seven teams.

Smith won the 3,000m race at the Terrapin Invite on Saturday, crossing the finish line in a personal-best 9:59. The sophomore was able to outrun a trio of runners from the Naval Academy down the stretch to win the race against mostly Division I competition. Smith's time was the third fastest Division III time this season.

Weathers won the 800 meter race at the Collegeville Classic with a personal best time of 2:19.67. Weathers' time moves her up to ninth in school history for the event and gives her the 11th best time in the NCAA this season. She was also part of the 4x400 relay team that placed fourth. Weathers' victory was her second in as many weeks after winning the 3,000 meters at the Kutztown Invitational.

Reid-Shaw won the mile race at the Kutztown Golden Bear Invitational on Friday in a personal-best time of 5:18.5. The junior distance runner beat out 34 Division II and Division III competitors for the title.

Cavanaugh beat out 12 other competitors to win the 55-meter hurdles while breaking her own school record to lead Gettysburg at the Dickinson Early Bird Invitational. In prelims she was timed at 8.38 seconds, clipping her record by a tenth of a second, before finishing in 8.58 in the final. Cavanaugh also placed second among 21 competitors in the 55-meter dash (7.51), and her prelims time of 7.48 moved her into second in school history in the event.

Smith opened up her indoor season with a first-place finish in the 3,000m run at the Metro Holiday Season Opener on Staten Island. Smith dominated the field, finishing in 10:04.94. Her time is the second fastest in Division III this year.
