Adriana Frayne-Reixa, Dickinson, mile 2:00 EST, Friday

Dickinson senior Adriana Frayne-Reixa (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) opened competition at the 2017 NCAA National Championships on Friday, qualifying in the mile.

Frayne-Reixa turned in an outstanding performance at the Ursinus Final Qualifier, knocking almost 10 seconds off her time to earn a spot at nationals. She crossed the line in 5:01.14 to rank fourth in the Mideast to earn All-Region recognition. Her time ranks her second all-time in program history at Dickinson.

Frayne-Reixa posted a time of 5:10.64 in her preliminary heat on Friday, but would not advance to Saturday's final, facing one of the most competitive event fields at nationals.

Katie Sullivan, Haverford, mile, 2:00 EST, Friday

Katie Sullivan advanced to the finals of the mile race at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday with a time of 5:02.22. She is one of 10 runners in the mile who will compete for the national championship tomorrow at 1 p.m. CST (2 p.m. EST). The top eight individual finishers will earn All-America status.

Sullivan competed in the second heat and was setting the pace for the vast majority of the race. She ended up finishing fourth in her heat. However, her mark was good enough to claim the last spot in the final based on time after the top three finishers from each heat automatically advanced to the national final.

The winner of the second heat, Maya Weigel of Pomona-Pitzer, was the top overall runner in the preliminaries as she crossed the line in a time of 5:00.54. Less than two seconds decided the first through 10th places overall during Friday's heats.

Sullivan is the fourth runner in program history to qualify for the mile. With Sullivan's result today, three of those entrants have now made the final. Haverford's last All-American in the event was Annick Lamar '08 in 2008 as she placed fourth. Sullivan will be looking for her second All-American honor as she ran the 800 meter leg of the Fords' third-place DMR during the 2016 indoor season.

Katie Sullivan became a two-time All-American with her eighth-place finish in the mile of the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships. Sullivan finished in a time of 4:56.62, just 32-hundredths of a second off her personal best that had her as the fourth seed in the event entering the weekend.

Sullivan was right in the mix as just less than two-tenths of a second separated the fifth through ninth place finishers heading into the final lap. Sullivan saved her best for last as her time of 35.70 seconds on the final lap was her quickest of the eight lap event. That kick to the finish ended up beating out Brandeis' Emily Bryson by four-tenths of a second to secure the eighth and final All-America position.

The junior co-captain is now a two-time All-American as she was also a member of Haverford's third place distance medley relay at the national indoor meet last year. She is the Fords' second indoor All-American in the mile, joining Annick Lamar '08 who placed fourth in 2008. Haverford also had four All-Americans when the event was contested at the 1,500 meter distance indoors.

Lilly Price, Swarthmore, mile, 2:00 EST, Friday

Freshman Lilly Price competed in the preliminaries of the one-mile race at the NCAA Division III 2017 Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday, March 10.

Price finished 15th with a time of 5:03.04 and did not advance to the 10-participant final. She was one of only two freshmen in the field.

The Swarthmore women's track and field team has sent a competitor to the indoor championships mile race for five consecutive years with Price following in the footsteps of Sarah Nielsen '16, Katie Jo McMenamin '16 and Rebecca Hammond '13.

The Blue Jay kept her pace up, even extending her lead to more than a second as she completed her 13th lap with a time of 8:27.967. The sophomore held the edge over Cordani heading into the bell lap, but Cordani used a 35.563 split to earn the victory over Koerner. Cordani posted a time of 9:42.43, 1.89 seconds ahead of Koerner's final time of 9:44.32.

Koerner picked up All-American honors in track & field for the first time in her career and adds to her All-American honors from the 2016 cross country season.

For the second day a row, the race came down to Koerner and Cordani. The duo also competed in the 5,000 meter run Friday in the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships.

Koerner paced the field through the first 12 laps, with a time of 7:57.515 through 12 laps. For each split in the first 15 laps, Koerner posted a time of less than 42 seconds, including seven laps with splits less than 40 seconds. Only three runners in the field had more splits of times less than 40 seconds than Koerner.

Koerner completed the race in 17:40.27, 16th out of 17. Cordani, who ran the first half the race directly behind Koerner, made her move on the 13th lap and did not look back, posting a meet record of 16:28.15 for a first-place finish by more than 23 seconds.
