Bergin, Courouble Named Co-Players of the Week

Co-Players of the Week October 17, 2016 

Laura Bergin, Sr, OH, Gettysburg

Bergin continued her impressive play with a big week on the attack. She totaled 44 kills over three contests, averaging 4.4 per set with an attack percentage of .306. She tallied 15 kills and 11 digs in a four-set loss to Swarthmore before putting down 19 kills in a sweep of Dickinson. Bergin wrapped up the week with 10 kills in a quick sweep of Bryn Mawr. She also averaged 2.6 digs per set and recorded four blocks for the week.

Valentine Courouble, Sr, RS/MH, Haverford
Washington, D.C./Washington International School

Named to Stevens Invitational All-Tournament Team with 4.83 kills per set, a mark that would be the best in program history if extrapolated over an entire season... Posted team-high in kills in all four tournament games on the weekend as the Fords took down 18-win Montclair State and FDU Florham. Also chipped in nine total blocks in the effort.

Player of the Week October 10, 2016 

Kristi Rhead, Jr, S, Johns Hopkins
Morgan, Utah/Morgan

After an injury to setter Sarah Elnozahy, Rhead took over as JHU's setter for the remaining three matches of the week. Rhead began her stellar week with seven kills, the second most on the team. She also added two aces and a team-high two blocks in the match. Over the weekend, Rhead posted 105 assists, including a season-high 43 against Randolph-Macon and the most by a single Hopkins setter in a four-set match this season. At Ursinus, the junior helped defensively, tallying four blocks and 10 digs. Against Manhattanville, Rhead served a season-high six aces, two in each set.


Player of the Week October 3, 2016 

Shannon Hubert, So, S, Muhlenberg
Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo

Hubert averaged 9.67 assists and 4.67 digs to lead the Mules to a pair of come-from-behind CC wins. She recorded 40 assists, 17 digs and 7 kills in a 3-1 win against Dickinson, then added 47 assists and a career-high 25 digs in a five-set match at Washington. In the latter match, Hubert had 10 assists in the fifth set alone as Muhlenberg fought off five match points to escape with the win.

 

Player of the Week 9/23/16

Elizabeth Wuerstle, Jr, Johns Hopkins
Kennett Square, Pa./Tower Hill School

Wuerstle led the Blue Jays in kills in the three-set victories over Haverford and Muhlenberg as Hopkins opened home and conference play. The junior tallied 10 kills without an error against Haverford, the only Blue Jay with double-digit kills in the victory. She also recorded three service aces in the win. Against Muhlenberg, Wuerstle once again led JHU in kills with 13 and earned a hitting percentage better than .400 with only one error in the match. Wuerstle added two aces and one solo block in the victory as well.


Player of the Week 9/19/16

Sarah Wallace, Jr, OH, Swarthmore
San Francisco, Calif./Branson

Sarah Wallace became the sixth player and first junior in program history to reach 1,000 kills in a 5-0 week for the Garnet. Wallace hit .284 while averaging 3.86 kills and 3.14 digs per set as the Garnet extended its win streak to nine matches. The junior outside hitter was also named the tournament MVP of the Neumann Knights Invitational while Swarthmore finished the weekend without dropping a set.


Player of the Week 9/12/16

Kaitlyn Marino, Soph, OH, Washington College
Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow

Averaged 4.57 kills and 3.43 digs to go with a .244 hitting percentage in a 2-0 week for the Shorewomen with a pair of double-doubles. In a four-set victory over host Alvernia on Saturday, she had a career-high 20 kills and 12 digs as she hit .300 in the victory. She 20 of WC's 50 kills in the win and clinched the third set with a kill to give WC a 2-1 lead. In the three-set sweep of Immaculata later on Saturday at Alvernia, she had 12 kills and 12 digs.

 

Player of the Week 9/6/16

Kaitlyn Marino, Soph, OH, Washington College
Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow

Averaged 3.92 kills per set and 2.62 digs per set in addition to notching a pair of double-doubles in a 3-1 weekend for the Shorewomen. She had 17 kills, leading all players, and 10 digs in a four-set win over Rutgers-Camden on Saturday in the final match of the DeSales Invitational. On Friday in the team's opening match versus Gwynedd Mercy she had 12 kills and 11 digs in a three-set sweep. On Friday versus Baruch she had 10 kills and on Saturday at DeSales she had 12 kills.
