Gettysburg Wins Unprecedented Fifth CC Crown

First Round (at Allentown): #5 Ursinus d. #4 Muhlenberg, 1-0.
Semifinal (at Gettysburg): #1 Gettysburg d. #5 Ursinus, 2-0.

GETTYSBURG, PA - Katie Myers collected three goals for the Bullets of Gettysburg to lead them over Johns Hopkins, 4-3 in the Centennial Conference Finals. The win for Gettysburg gives them their fifth conference title in the 12-year history of the Centennial Conference.

Myers and the Bullets struck first only 9:58 into the game. Myers look a pass from Jenny Line and beat Hopkins goalkeeper Jen Goebel (Jericho, NY/Jericho) to take the early, 1-0 advantage. Neither team would score for the rest of the first half, despite Gettysburg holding a 8-0 advantage in shots.

Gettysburg increased their lead to 3-0 early in the second half as Myers collected her second goal of the game and Christina DiTucci added another. The Blue Jays remained resilient and fought hard to come back. Sophomore Lindsey Kimura (Los Angeles, CA/Harvard-Westlake) netted the Blue Jays' first goal off an indirect kick taken by classmate Jessie McKenzie (Morristown, NJ/Morristown).

Myers, and the Bullets responded to Kimura goal with one of their own, her third of the game, and increased the Bullets lead to, 4-1. The Blue Jays remained on the attack attempting to come back. Sophomore Laurie Baumann (Milford, MI/The Greenmills School) scored off a breakaway goal to bring the score to 4-2. McKenzie added the Blue Jays' third goal of the game with a little over eight minutes remaing, running the score to,4-3.

The Blue Jays tried frantitcally in the last eight minutes of the game to pick up a game-tying goal, but were unsuccessful, despite a number of scoring opportunities.
