The Muhlenberg wrestling team won the final three bouts to come from behind and defeat Scranton, 25-17, in its home opener.
The Mules trailed, 17-15, before senior
Angelo Mahaffey took the mat at 184 for his first bout since December 2019. Mahaffey took his opponent down midway through the first period, added a reversal early in the second and went on to win, 7-1, giving Muhlenberg an 18-17 lead.
Senior
Luca Colestock, ranked eighth in Division III by d3wrestle.com, took his opponent down in the first 12 seconds and cruised to a 10-1 major decision. Colestock has now won 25 straight bouts in dual meets and is 29-2 in duals for his career.
With a 22-17 lead heading into the final bout, the Mules only needed for senior
Ramiro Osuna to avoid getting pinned. That never came close to happening. Osuna scored an escape in the first 10 seconds of the second period, and that was the only point until he clinched his bout, and the team win, with a takedown in the final 20 seconds of the third period.
Sophomore
Joey Lamparelli got the Mules off to a good start, posting a 9-3 decision at 125 to remain undefeated. Senior
Greg Baum made his season debut at 141, but it didn't last long as he pinned his opponent in a career-best 34 seconds.
A pivotal match occurred at 157, where freshman
Anson Dewar (pictured above) reversed his opponent at the start of the second period, then pinned him at the 4:25 mark.
