Despite a strong pitching effort by freshman Truman Devitt, the Muhlenberg baseball team fell at Swarthmore, 6-3.

Devitt, making his first career Centennial Conference start, worked into the seventh inning and allowed only two earned runs to a Garnet squad that had averaged more than 13 runs in its last four games. All three of his strikeouts ended innings with at least one runner in scoring position.

The Mules (10-15, 3-5) jumped on top with two runs in the top of the first on an RBI single by junior Matt Riebesell and a run-scoring wild pitch. The first-place Garnet (20-6, 7-1) scored once in the second and once in the sixth to tie the score, then went ahead with two in the seventh.

Sophomore John Serruto led off the eighth with his second hit of the game, a double, and eventually scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-3. After Swarthmore tacked on two runs in the bottom of the eighth, Muhlenberg got the tying run to the plate in the ninth before the game ended.
