No. 5 Johns Hopkins Too Much For Baseball

BALTIMORE, Md. - Penn State Harrisburg's baseball team hung around for much of the afternoon before eventually falling 8-2 to No. 5 Johns Hopkins at Babb Field on Wednesday evening, March 2.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Penn State Harrisburg (2-3) stayed within striking distance for much of the evening but couldn't put together the big inning needed to hang with No. 5 Johns Hopkins (3-1) in Wednesday's defeat.

The Lions got a quality start from reigning United East Pitcher of the Week Danny Eden but the offense managed just five hits, of which only one was an extra-base knock, and a pair of walks. Dallas Hite and Drew Sassaman were the only Blue & White players to have multi-hit games.

The Blue Jays used a leadoff walk, a base knock, a wild pitch, and an RBI groundout to score the game's first run in the bottom of the second. Penn State Harrisburg answered right back in the top of third, however, as Kevin Lehner worked a leadoff walk before stealing second, advancing to third on a ground ball, and plating when Sassaman singled through the right side to tie things up.

JHU reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the fourth thanks to a bases-loaded hit by pitch but Eden stranded three runners to limit the damage. The home team added one run in the fifth and sixth innings, respectively, but put things out of reach following a four-run bottom of the seventh.

Penn State Harrisburg appeared to get something rolling in the top of the ninth, as Sassaman singled to begin the stanza before Hite doubled down the left field line. Following a Matt Parks walk, Chase Smith singled to right field to drive in Sassaman and keep the bases full with no one away.

The Blue Jays made the correct counter when a pitching change halted the Lions' momentum and kept them from tacking on any more runs in the final frame.
