Johns Hopkins Shuts Out Ursinus, 3-0

Blue Jays Clinch Centennial Conference Playoff Berth

The Basics
• Score: #17 Johns Hopkins-3, Ursinus-0
• Records: JHU (12-3-1, 6-2-0) • UC (0-12-3, 0-8-0)
• Location: Baltimore, MD • Homewood Field
• The Short Story: The 17th-ranked Johns Hopkins men's soccer team moved into a tie for first place in the Centennial Conference standings with a 3-0 win over visiting Ursinus Saturday night.

How it Happened
• The Blue Jays struck for a pair of goals in a four-minute span to grab the early lead. Sophomore Pablo Martinez put Hopkins on the board in the 26th minute as JHU cashed in on a corner kick. Senior Gerrit Church sent a long ball to the far side of the box, where freshman Tim Treinen headed it towards the Bears' goal. A diving Achim Younker headed the ball down to the feet of Martinez, who touched it past Brandon Lillian on the doorstep.
• Senior defender Cole Rosenberger then got in on the action with a nice give-and-go with junior Connor Jacobs. Rosenberger intercepted a pass just over midfield, dribbled about 20 yards and then played the ball out wide to Jacobs. He took several touches and then crossed the ball into Rosenberger, who slid in and poked the ball home at the near post.
• Junior Liam Moylan added to the Blue Jays' lead with a great hustle play in the 86th minute. Off a Bears' corner kick, Moylan cleared the ball and an Ursinus defender attempted to play the ball. Moylan chipped the ball over him and outraced the rest of the team to the Ursinus goal. Lillian came out and initially saved Moylan's chip shot, but he was able to run on to the rebound and slot it home from in-tight.

What it Means
• Hopkins improves to 37-7-2 all-time against Ursinus and is unbeaten in the last 23 meetings in the series.
• The Blue Jays move into a tie with the Haverford Fords for first place in the Centennial Conference. Hopkins has 18 points and just one game to play in the regular season. Haverford, also with 18 points, has two league games remaining. The Fords own the tiebreaker with the Blue Jays by virtue of their head-to-head win.
• Hopkins clinches a berth in the Centennial Conference Tournament for the 18th straight season.

Inside the Box Score
• Martinez now leads the Blue Jays with six goals on the season while Younker has a team-best five assists.
• Sophomore Xander LeFevre got the start in goal and was not forced to make a save in 81 minutes. He was replaced by senior Jeremy Ratcliff, who made a pair of saves to preserve the shutout. Lillian finished with six saves in the loss for the Bears.
• Hopkins outshot Ursinus, 18-5, and had a 6-3 advantage in corners.

Up Next
• Hopkins closes out the regular season on Saturday, October 27 at Dickinson. The Centennial Conference contest is scheduled for a 4:00 pm start at Dickinson Park.
