Women's Basketball Drops Wire-to-Wire Contest at F&M

LANCASTER, Pa. - Swarthmore College Women's Basketball dropped a highly contested game against Centennial Conference foe Franklin & Marshall College, 57-55, on Saturday. The Garnet drop to 9-9 and 5-8, while the Diplomats improve to 9-11 and 7-8.

Alyssa Hayashi tallied a game high 17 points and grabbed a team high eight rebounds. The first-year guard appeared in all 40 minutes of the contest, and was an impressive 6-of-7 from the free throw line. Dana Bandurick added 16 points, while Kim Kockenmeister finished the game with 14 points. As a team, Swarthmore was 12-of-17 for 70.6% from the free throw line.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After allowing the first five points to the Diplomats, the Garnet bounced back to score the next eight points. Bandurick tallied a pair of free throws and Hayashi added two straight layups during that run over two minutes in the first quarter.

- The back and forth second quarter affair, saw Franklin & Marshall take a quick five point edge. Carolina Lopez put a stop to the run and gave the Garnet a little burst as the first year knocked down a jumper. Hayashi's three-pointer with 3:36 remaining tied the contest at 26.

- Swarthmore outscored the Diplomats, 17-8, in the third quarter, which started with a Katelyn Becker steal. Becker's steal turned into a three-point play as Hayashi made the layup and was fouled on the play.

-  The final three minutes saw Swarthmore tie the game up twice, including a clutch three-pointer by Kockenmeister and crucial layup by Bandurick. Hayashi knocked down a three-pointer to make it a 55-55 game with .26 seconds remaining. D'nai Bellamy-Greene hit a jumper with just over two-seconds remaining in the game to give F&M the victory.
