SWARTHMORE, Pa.—No. 30 Swarthmore College Men's Tennis sailed to a 5-0 win over the Haverford College Fords in Saturday afternoon's Centennial Conference semifinal match. The Garnet advance to the conference championship for the sixth consecutive season and will face the top-seeded Johns Hopkins University Blue Jays on the road at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
Swarthmore made quick work of the Fords in doubles action. In the top flight,
Thibault Vernier and
John Lathrop held off the Fords 8-5.
Jiung Jung and
Noah Criss collaborated for an 8-3 win in second doubles. Third doubles went to seniors
Simon Vernier and
Evan Han, also by an 8-3 count.
With three points in the bag, the Garnet turned their attention to securing the final two points needed to win the match.
The bottom of Swarthmore's singles lineup came through. Criss rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 victory in fifth singles. Han earned his second win of the day with a 6-2, 6-4 score in sixth singles.
The remaining matches were left unfinished after the overall match victory was secured.
Swarthmore turns around quickly for the conference championship match in Baltimore, beginning at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
