CARLISLE, Pa. - The Haverford College men's soccer team (2-4) won its Centennial Conference opener over host Dickinson (0-4) on Saturday night, prevailing on the road by a 3-1 final. Captain Noah Schwab opened the scoring in the 40th minute before the Fords added a pair of second half goals from Alex Millones to ensure the victory.

The Fords had early offensive chances, peppering Dickinson goalkeeper John Baney with four solid scoring chances in the first 20 minutes of action. Haverford put its fifth shot on target in the 36th minute as Brian Lorenz tested the keeper ahead of Andrew Peebles missing high in the 38th minute.

Again on the offensive, Schwab broke through as Luca Mello crafted a nifty pass that created separation for the senior to work his way into the 18 and finish past Baney to open the scoring. Heading into the halftime break, the Fords had a clear grasp on the contest despite the one-goal advantage, holding a 7-1 edge in shots and a 2-0 corner advantage.

Millones gave the Fords some breathing room with his tally in the 60th minute, and the goal proved to be vital as Dickinson quickly got one back in the 65th, pulling to within one as Will Flannery connected with Tyson Burling for Burling's first goal of the season. The Portland, Maine product added his fourth goal of the season in the 77th minute, putting some breathing room between the Fords and Red Devils in the waning moments. The sophomore currently sits in fourth place in the Centennial Conference with nine points on the season.

Dylan Ioffreda picked up his second win of the season in goal, stopping a pair of shots. The Fords have won three of its last four meetings with the Red Devils in a series that dates back to 1965.

Haverford now ha a busy week on tap, as the squad makes a non-conference road trip to Galloway, N.J. to do battle with Stockton on Tuesday night (7 p.m.) before returning home on Saturday for a Centennial Conference showdown with No. 23 Johns Hopkins (3 p.m.). The contest is the second game of a doubleheader that features the women's team competing with the Blue Jays at noon.
